We recently connected with Asia Latrice and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Asia, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
On September 30th myself and business partner are having our second art show here in Atlanta. Activated Art Show II: The Fall Through. We display our work as photographer and model but also showcase musical artists as well. It is extremely stressful to put on but combines my business and artistic sides together and that’s what I love about it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Asia Latrice and I entered into the artistic/beauty industry about 5 years ago. I started off pursuing modeling. I signed to an agency in Nashville TN in 2020 mid pandemic and worked through them for 2 years while also working a full time job. Being a black model with kinky hair, you experience a lot of HMUAs in the industry don’t know how to work with you hair type and skin tone. A multitude of times I was left you do my own hair and makeup for shoots. In doing that I developed the dream of being on both sides of the camera. Doing hair, makeup for models like me. So I started my business Cherokee Rose Beauty in 2021 and then cosmetology school at the beginning of 2022.
I’m definitely proud of the faith I have in myself and the vision God had placed in me. It’s been tough navigating chasing a dream, being creative and real life adult necessities but I’m still early in the process. I know I have a lot to do but I also now I have time to accomplish everything I want to do.
Currently I work at My Texture Salon in Buckhead. My books are open Thursday and Friday 9-6pm. I do natural hair styling i.e wash-n-go’s, flat twist, two strand twist, locs, etc. you can book me through mytexturesalon.com and by following/dming me @cherokeerosebeauty on Instagram. I am also freelance modeling and can be contacted via email [email protected] or Instagram @asialatrice__ .
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Seeing what you envision in you head actually come to life for others to see is the most rewarding aspect of being an creative.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I think what’s driving my creative journey is, as I’m learning and growing as a person, to be able to be comfortable in showing up as myself without fear of judgment from others. The things that I create are a reflect of who I am at the time and it allows others to see it and know me a little bit more than they did before.
