We were lucky to catch up with Asia Givhan recently and have shared our conversation below.

Asia , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.

I learned how to do makeup from watching YouTube videos. I loved the Beauty Guru Era on YouTube that was from 2014-2018. I learned from YouTubers like Aaliyah Jay, Jackie Aina, and Makeup Shayla. Now that I’m 23, going to beauty school would’ve benefited my journey as a makeup artist. Then I could work in a salon professionally and gave that education under my melt. The skills that are most essential in makeup is understanding and identifying undertones! It took some time for me to learn this concept but with research and practice I learned the best skills to identify skin tones.

Asia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Asia Raychelle MUA and I’m a 23 year old makeup artist and business owner from Kansas City! I grew up in Wyandotte County where I fell in love with the craft and created my business.

I got into the beauty industry when I was in high school. I fell in love with the beauty industry on YouTube! I started to practice on myself and wear makeup to school, church, and around the city. When I got good enough, I began taking clients while I was in college as a side hustle. My specialty was Soft Glam Makeup and it still is today! The services I offer are full face services, weddings, and soon to come makeup classes!

What sets me apart from others is my ability to enhance their best features and create the makeup look with a skin like and natural finish.

I am most proud of taking place in a Kansas City Link Fashion Show!

I started my makeup brand Lotus Ave Cosmetics, formally known as Beauty any Nature Cosmetics in Spring of 2022. We are vegan and cruelty free! I’m just now getting my foot in the business industry and so far I’m enjoying the journeys of a business owner. My goal is to build a movement of women embracing their life journey and blossoming into beauty beings.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

My goal and mission is to inspire young women to embrace their journeys! Almost like a big sister encouraging and rooting for them. I had to build my confidence and my voice, so I enjoy supporting women that are wanting more for themselves.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

When I started to work and build my business, there were a lot of set backs and bumps in the road. When I got hit with trademark infringement, I thought it was over for my business. But as I go on I realize that set backs are meant to be lessons. Entrepreneurs often say that things will happen in your business but it’s how you react to those things.
