We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Asia Barnes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Asia below.
Hi Asia, thanks for joining us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
I started out in the nursing field. Caring for people is my passion. 8/10 of Black and Brown women experience uterine fibroids at some point during their childbearing years. Our medical care system offers birth control, fibroid removal surgery, or a hysterectomy as semi- permanent and permanent solutions, which both can cause many reproductive complications down the line. Experiencing this myself is what made me look for a more natural solution. After doing an extensive amount of research, I created my first 2 recipes which can be found on my website for fibroids and menstrual Cycles. Learning herbs saved my life! I knew i had to share all the information I was learning with others and that’s how Herbs n Asia LLC was born.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Developing herbal remedies for different ailments is a key aspect of my practice. I use my knowledge of plants and their healing properties to create remedies that can help treat a wide range of ailments, from minor illnesses to chronic conditions. Herbal remedies can be processed and taken in different ways and forms, including the whole herb, teas, syrup, essential oils, ointments, and salves. I offer virtual consultations & follow up consultations because it is very important to me to work closely with my clients/patients to develop personalized treatment plans that incorporate herbal remedies to promote natural healing. We also have an online Certified Master herbalist class; I believe educating patients on the benefits of natural healing methods is another important aspect of Herbs n Asia. My goal is to always empower my students/patients to take control of their health by providing them with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. I also help patients understand the potential risks and benefits of using herbal remedies and other natural healing methods so that by working with me, patients can gain a deeper understanding of their bodies and the natural healing processes that can help them achieve optimal health.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Of course! Each position I had in the nursing field, from direct care to the office, to the idea of owning my own natural care practice I wouldn’t change anything. All these different points in my life taught me valuable lessons that prepared me for what was next. I figured out the key to what makes me happy. In my profession I get to help people we have shipped all over the world, I make my own hours, I get to be creative, my voice is heard, the list really goes on. I’m grateful for and proud of myself for what I do and the people that support us.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
People can feel when someone really doesn’t care about them. Sometimes when people are sick, they may not be the nicest. The most important thing is to genuinely care for people, because when you care you’ll be patient and that genuine vibe will put your clients at ease to listen and trust you to guide them in the right direction. Always try to empathize with your clients because when you think about how you would feel in their situation, it’ll help you to give them the best bedside manner or service. All in all, be Genuine.
