Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashtyn Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ashtyn , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The biggest risk I’ve taken in my business was starting my business. When the idea of the company came, I knew that I wanted it to be a private label company that produced exclusive to us designs. With that comes a hefty investment. As someone who is naturally not a spender, it was a big decision and risk. But as I prayed, God confirmed within me that this is what He wanted me to do and then began to open the doors to me to accomplish this.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Ashtyn Smith and I’m 27 years old. I’m married to my high school sweetheart and I’m just an ordinary country girl that works hard and loves Jesus. I always dreamed of being my own boss and being able to do something creative, but my passion has ALWAYS been to serve others. I felt the Lord put a calling on my life that I couldn’t ignore. I wanted to bring people closer to Jesus, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to do that. The foundation of a home is built on Jesus and how kids are brought up determines what kind of people they are as they develop. As a Christian it’s so important to “Train up children in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it”- Proverbs 22:6
It’s my mission to let everyone know they have a purpose according to the Lord. I firmly believe that if family’s begin instilling strong values and morals in their kids at a young age they will be a light to a world that so desperately needs it. That is why I started a faith-based brand with children’s clothes. The patterns are faith based and have scripture or worship songs they relate back to. It’s the perfect way to bring up Jesus to your little ones with the softest pjs combined with the best message!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Before I started Handpicked and Chosen, I wanted to be in the medical field so that I could continue to help and serve people. A week before I started nursing school, COVID mandates begun. I began to pray about what I should do and, in the end, decided not to continue with nursing school. After that, I was unsure about what my next steps would be. Around that same time, I attended a Christian conference. During that conference, He reminded me that there are other ways to serve those around me outside of the medical field and that is how Handpicked & Chosen was born!

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
We are an e-commerce brand that is sold mainly on our direct website. We have also recently partnered with Public Square. They are a pro-life, pro-freedom & pro-God platform that shares companies that share those same values. Our company stands strong on these values, and we do not want to be like every other brand that sells on multiple sites. We want to bring something to the table by sticking to our core values and not wavier just to get sales.
