We recently connected with Ashton Schrader and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ashton thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
When i’m gone from this world, I ultimately just want to be remembered as being a good person. I want clients that I have photographed to go back and see the memories that I captured for them, and just in turn think “she was a really sweet woman.” Kindness is really lacking in today’s world, so I just find it important to be a good human. And that’s really all I strive for. If no one remembers me for my photography, then it will be okay. As long as my character is.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Ashton Schrader and I am a 31 year old mom of two beautiful girls. I’ve been married to my husband for 8 years now, and we are currently living the active duty military life. We got married in October of 2015, and about 6 months after, I moved down to St. Simons Island Georgia for my first “big girl” photography job. I really struck an interest with photography my senior year of high school. Nothing ever stuck out to me as a profession. I always got the questions.. “Well, what do you want to go to college for? What do you want to do when you grow up?” My answer was always “I have no idea.” I was gifted a small digital camera for my birthday that year and really just started taking pictures of everything. The more I played around with it, the more realized how much I enjoyed it. I attended North Georgia Technical College and enrolled in their photography program. I learned so much from that program and really just fell more in love with photography. From there, I started my own business, Ashton Lorenia Photography. I specialize in families, seniors, and couples. I absolutely love getting to meet new people and making them feel special behind my camera. I always try to capture the joy and all of the raw emotion with each session.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Social media. I have no idea where my business would be today if it weren’t for social media. Facebook and Instagram have been the best tools to reach new clients and to keep connected with past clients. There are also so many wonderful and talented photographers out there today, so getting to connect with them through Facebook groups and following them on Instagram has really helped grow and inspire my business.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal with photography will always stay the same – capture the moments. Life can be so short and it’s just so important to me to give people something to look back on. I want to make people smile and feel good about themselves years down the road.
