Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashton Angelle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ashton, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

The story behind my mission as a recording artist is to bring back elements and sounds of the past decades that the radio has seemed to lose over the years. My dad is the age of most of my peers grandparents, so I grew up on 50s, 60s, and 70s music being played regularly. It was funny, because I thought that was what everyone my age listened to. I quickly learned that that was not the case. In my opinion, most music being played on the radio today is lifeless because most of it is trying to conform to what is trendy. However, It is truly the timeless music that outlives any trend no matter how big. All in all, I want to bring that style of music back for people to enjoy and experience, in some cases for the first time.

Ashton, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if spicy bayou met neon western? Born and raised in New Orleans, Ashton Angelle was practically destined to live the life of a Lousiana Man. Growing up in southern Louisiana, Angelle was heavily, musically influenced by many cultures and sounds. Once Angelle realized this was not only his dream but his goal to become an artist, he knew the next steps to take in order to make it a reality. ​
Inspired by many of the legends of country western music, Ashton was drawn to Music City. After several years of being in Nashville, Ashton connected with singer/songwriter, Brett Penington, which led Ashton to finally take on the local music scene. Ashton and Brett became fast friends and quickly realized they had similar music taste. Soon they began working together and encouraged by Penington, Angelle discovered his own voice through writing original music. Between Penington’s talent as a songwriter and musician and Angelle’s unique voice and sound, they’d soon form what we now know as Ashton Angelle and his band, The High Delta Riders.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

I love this question and topic, because the answer is quite different than most people would have. However, I have three years of experience in door to door (commission only) sales. Arguably one of the hardest jobs There are is out there because of the physical and mental strain it takes on someone. However, through this work experience, I was able to learn all of the fundamentals of sales. More importantly, in person selling. Examples of some skills that I have learned are voice tonality, mirroring, meta verbal and para verbal communication, and flat out persistence. Because of this sales experience, I find the easiest way to market myself is just by shoulder tapping. Me and one of my great friends that Believes in me and my music make trips to smaller cities and hand out flyers, and have people in person go follow the music page and pre-save the song. The crazy thing is people respect and admire the hustle. It goes over very well!

Any advice for managing a team?

With the job that I have in sales, I am a sales manager. Through this experience, I have had to deal with a bunch of different personality types, as well as counterparts to the sales team. I would say the most important advice that I have to give regarding managing and maintaining a teams high morale is to always make every member of your team feel hard and valued. It is important to take the time out of your busy schedule and give one-on-one time to these folks, new and old. This goes along way with people and they will respect you and become very loyal I have seen. The same is true with my band and people involved with music. Even though I am the face of the art, I make sure everybody has input as well as feels super valued and rewarded.
