We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashton Abbott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ashton below.
Ashton, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I took risk when I moved to Austin, Texas without knowing anyone or anything about Texas. I took a risk to move 15 hours away from my family, friends, and everything I knew about life to be able to find myself and found out my purpose for my life. I started and are continuing to grow my online coaching business through social media and the people I have met throughout college and my journey moving across multiple states. I took the risk of moving and starting my own coaching business because I know what I am capable of and I know that I can continue to grow bigger through health and fitness and my career if I grow within myself and I wasn’t going to be able to do that when I lived in Tennessee. I did not know who I was and I needed to move away to found who I was as a woman and I found that through health and fitness; which is the main reason I have opened my virtual coaching business. I have been through all of the “coaching” businesses such as beach body and while I loved their vision and all of the programs they supply you with… it just wasn’t for me. I wanted to become a coach that was certified, with so much knowledge that I would be able to help anyone that crossed my path.
Ashton, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was a Division II collegiate track and field athlete for 5 years in college, going through multiple surgeries, rehabs, and workout programs. I had the most incredible strength coach when I was in college that made me fall in love with health and fitness and becoming a strength coach myself. I love working with athletes and people. I love being able to help others reach their health and fitness goals which is what I do now. I am building my own virtual coaching business while getting my CPT (certified personal training) certification, going through a Human Performance: Strength and Conditioning Masters Program and working a full time job with collegiate and professional strength coaches.
The main thing I want potential clients to know is that I am here for them and their needs. I will listen and I will find the best advice/solution to help them reach their goals. I work for my clients, to make sure their goals, needs, and any questions are answered and they are taken care of because they are important to me. I work day and night to make sure the knowledge I have is correct and it is at the utmost help for my clients. I fell in love with health and fitness when I was in college and I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything but helping others reach their own goals. I would not do anything for my clients that I haven’t already done myself.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back, I would choose to get my undergraduate degree in kinesiology instead of teaching; but in reality my career path I would not change. I would choose this same profession every single time.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I have four books that I would re-read over and over again.
1. The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck
2. Atomic Habits
3. The Five Second Rule
4. 75 Hard
