We recently connected with Ashlyn Delaney and have shared our conversation below.
Ashlyn , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission is to uplift brands/people who are “seen and heard” but never-ever actually FELT seen or heard. For the women, who were taught to be strong but no matter how loud their voices are, it never felt loud enough. It’s meaningful to me because before I fingured out who I was today, I was that woman/individual. Social media gave me another voice to challenge and positively impact my community.
“I don’t just edit the content I create it, I format it and I produce it.”
Ashlyn , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well of course — don’t get it twisted my name is Ashlyn Delaney or Ashe. I was born and raised on the East Side of Detroit. I tend to call myself “your favorite PR social media specialist.” I integrated within my industry from being an intern at the age of 20 I worked for one of the top magazines in Detroit as a social media marketing intern – that’s when I really started honing in on my strengths within social media. I built my portfolio by working 500+ hours to make a “name” for myself within fashion. At least enough for me to survive in NYC.
I am rather experimental with my craft and I soon realized in college that I wanted to make a living from my phone while studying Integrative Public Relations. I noticed the power of social media and now that has taken over my expertise in creating other people’s brand voices and really honing in on original authentic content.
I think what stands me apart from other social media specialists is that I am extremely hands-on while having a creative IPR background, so I know the front of the house and the back of the house on how to promote and execute a proper brand. I don’t just edit the contact I create it, I format it and I produce it.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
It doesn’t matter what you study as long as you have experience. I always thought the areas of what I studied or majored in dictated the field of my career, but when I realized I can be creative in my field it brought my passion to a whole new level.
Don’t ever let a piece of paper dictate the trajectory of your creative lifeline.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I moved to NYC… Such a weird time period. I went from pandemic graduation to working 2 jobs (6o hours + a week not including internships) to save to move to adventuring into a fast pace lifestyle I saw only saw in the movies.
