Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashlyn Cavallier . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ashlyn , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
This is a really good question. I think the answer is always. I’ve been creating art for a long time now, my earliest memory being around K5ish. And I know that sounds silly, but I remember the exact memory where I fell in love. The question was always how. It took a long time for me to figure out the best way to get my art out there, but still be secure financially. I finally have the set up mentally and financially to do what I want to do. I’m very blessed that I’m able to live my life exactly how I want.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Ashlyn Cavallier and I’m the artist and owner of Cavallier Creations. I’ve always been interested in everything about art, some of my earliest memories are surrounded by art and creating art.
I got into the industry officially in 2021, I’ve always wanted to professionally do art but I had to figure out how I was going to achieve my dream. I have a great office job that allows me to be creative and do what I love. I went the route of going to vendor events in my local area. I started going to the Purple Buffalo in North Charleston. I fell in love with the community of people there and people loved my art. I sold pieces of art that I had for years. This also kickstarted my live painting. I love live painting because not many people get to see my creative process. I love seeing everyone’s reaction to my work. Currently, I’m vending at the Ridgeville Farmer’s Market and that has opened so many business opportunities. I offer customers to book me for Painting Parties and as a face painter! I’m so very blessed for everything that has happened to Cavallier Creations. I’m literally living my dream and I couldn’t be happier.
I’m a crafter by nature, I love trying all different products and techniques to create my work. I’m mainly a painter though. I use all different kinds of paint, mainly acrylics. I also do a lot of mixed media work in my paintings so I can use different kinds of materials. I love creating drawings and using different pens and such to add to my paintings. I dabble in a little bit of everything!
I think for future customers and current, I create artwork that makes people feel happy or hopefully a little bit better. I want people to look at something that they bought from me and feel happy. I’m here to spread happiness, joy, and a little art knowledge. In my classes, I want people to leave feeling accomplished and continue to grow in their artistic endeavors. Art is for everyone and everyone should feel comfortable to paint until their heart’s content.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, it’s making someone’s day. I want everyone to feel comfortable enough within their human experience to be able to express it through art. For me personally, painting and creating has been a major part in helping me be happy. Expressing any emotion is hard, so I can do that through painting and color. A lot of my work is how I’m feeling and manifested in a colorful way. I think everyone, no matter how old, can express themselves in this way. I think it’s healthy and a beautiful way to express yourself.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had done more research on local events earlier. I feel like if I would have not been so nervous I would have done more earlier. But honestly, it’s not that big of a gap of time, I think I had to figure out my artistic style as well. I had to find something inspiring to me as an artist and inspiring to potential customers. I think I have figured out my niche as well as reaching out to local events more often.
