Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashlyn Carter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ashlyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
One of the biggest ways I diverge from the industry standard is by taking a truly holistic approach to skincare. I don’t just treat the surface of the skin — I focus on the whole person. That means addressing underlying causes like inflammation, stress, digestion, and lifestyle, which all play a huge role in skin health.
While many traditional facial treatments are results-driven in a clinical sense, my goal is to blend results with restoration. I use clean, non-toxic products, support the nervous system through facial massage and breathwork, and tailor each session based on how my client is feeling — physically and emotionally.
I had a client come to me with hormonal acne that hadn’t responded to months of harsh topicals. Once we slowed down, supported her barrier, incorporated calming facial rituals, and discussed small lifestyle changes, her skin — and her confidence — completely transformed. She told me, “This is the first time I’m confident enough to leave the house without my foundation on.”
That’s what I love most — offering a safe space where people can heal, not just their skin, but themselves.

Ashlyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Ashlyn Carter, owner of ASH Beauty & Wellness and I’m a licensed esthetician specializing in holistic facials and corrective skincare. I’ve always been passionate about helping others feel confident in their own skin, and that passion grew into a business built on the belief that true skin health is about more than just what we put on the surface — it’s about nurturing the whole person.
I got into the beauty and wellness industry because I struggled with my own skin and saw firsthand how overwhelming and disheartening the trial-and-error process can be. I wanted to create a space where clients feel seen, supported, and educated — not just sold to. Over the years, I’ve trained in both holistic and clinical modalities, which allows me to blend gentle, intuitive care with results-driven treatments.
At my studio, we offer a range of services including holistic and corrective facials, lash extensions, waxing, and brow shaping. I work with intentionally chosen skincare lines like Naturopathica, Epicutis, Hydrinity, and Face Reality — all of which support skin barrier health and long-term results without compromising on safety or integrity.
What sets my brand apart is our deeply personalized and integrative approach. Each client receives a customized experience — whether they’re working through acne, sensitivity, pigmentation, or simply want to feel radiant and restored. I focus on nervous system support, internal wellness, and barrier repair, and I believe skincare should be as therapeutic as it is transformative.
I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me and the results we achieve together. Whether it’s someone seeing progress in their acne journey, feeling more confident without makeup, or just enjoying an hour of peace during a facial, it’s incredibly rewarding to be part of that transformation.
More than anything, I want people to know that my business is a safe, welcoming space rooted in care, education, and empowerment. I don’t believe in quick fixes — I believe in healing skin with intention, consistency, and compassion.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Honestly, the most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been building real, trusting relationships. I never want to just be a service provider — I want my clients to feel like they’re seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. Whether it’s remembering the little details they share, checking in after a treatment, or being a safe space where they can just relax and be themselves, I focus on creating meaningful connections.
When people feel comfortable and valued, they come back — and they tell their friends. Word of mouth has been incredibly powerful for me, and I truly believe that when you lead with heart, your business grows in the most natural and fulfilling way.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Before opening my spa, I worked in restaurant management for several years. I didn’t love the job itself, but I was always drawn to the customer service side — I enjoyed making people feel cared for and creating a positive experience. That strength carried over naturally when I transitioned into the beauty industry and started working at a salon.
While I learned a lot there, I eventually hit a point where I knew I needed to pivot. I had a vision that didn’t quite fit the environment I was in — I craved more freedom to choose the products I believed in, set the atmosphere, and create a space that aligned with my holistic values. It was a scary leap to go off on my own, but I truly believed I had something special to offer.
That decision to step out and trust myself was one of the most important pivots I’ve ever made. It gave me the freedom to build a brand rooted in intention, healing, and connection — and it allowed me to show up for my clients as my full, authentic self.
