We recently connected with Ashley Wing Murphey and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
Astrology is often misunderstood and overly generalized. It is more than the sun sign horoscope. It’s based on scientifically calculated, orderly cycles using the ephemeris, which map out the positions of the planets for centuries, past and future. I study tropical astrology and it is based on the precession of the equinoxes on the seasonal cycle rather than the shifting constellations.
You can see examples of cycles and rotational patterns of energy everywhere you look. I find those most skeptical of astrology have not studied it and dismiss it as pseudoscience. We all rely on what resonates with our interests and that can change at different stages in our lives.
I find that even those of traditional religious faith can relate and astrology can co-exist, beyond limitations, as sources for good, unconditional love and understanding more of our spiritual existence.
I think the collective is becoming more open to these topics. Even those who don’t believe in astrology agree there is something to it!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am always observing and curious of the context as to why people do certain things and I look beneath the surface of what it appears as shown in projections and defenses. The curiosity lead me to study psychology for a bachelors in Behavioral Science. I have an investigative mind where I worked in internet fraud and later in animal welfare where I started out as a “cat detective” to assist outdoor community cats.
It can feel like a hall of mirrors, but when we scale out of the entanglement of the drama, we can learn what it is teaching us, but that doesn’t always help in the moment when we are feeling the intense emotion. Astrology is one of many tools that can give answers and validation to our natural dispositions and timing of life events. I believe there is a birth chart and death chart with aligning portals of energy when we enter and exit this world.
As Darryl Anka describes it, the soul chose challenges to impose upon itself to expand and learn, which it cannot do in the soul level. It takes the ripples and frequencies, and it concentrates them into the center of a focal point. The crystalized focal point in the center of the soul is the physical personality. Each life is like the soul breathing within itself, concentrating down to a focal point, expanding back out from a new direction.
I’m learning new techniques to indicate past life patterns in the chart. There are many facets that we are not able to know or in our best interest to tap into, and even if someone tells you, it has to resonate with you. Astrology can only tell us so much, it ultimately takes a level of faith to navigate the challenges. We all have access to the inner knowing from our higher self.
I aim to take you through a path of self-acceptance by explaining your birth chart potentials and make the best of significant life transits. Sometimes a shift in perception is enough to ease the pain. It starts with curiosity in order to receive new information.
It’s not always so serious. I think most people are interested out of curiosity for fun or a party with friends to see what the stars say for them. I enjoy blowing people’s minds as I tell them about it!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I also make pottery and tie-dye shirts. I never thought of myself as a creative person because I didn’t draw or paint. We can learn an art in a step-by-step approach, but our creativity emerges when we start adding our unique style to making the craft. The flow of creativity is when the ideas start coming in for colors, designs and shapes. We are creator beings. Creation is like a channeling from your higher self. It allows us to get in the zone and in that zone we are closer to source.
I will be at Wheeler Farm Market in Murray, UT Sundays Sept. 14 and Sept. 28, 2025.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think curiosity is a super power. It expands our world to new knowledge. I call it the lean in. When we lean into our curiosity it opens up information that already existed, but we were not previously aware of until we became curious. For some it takes a great amount of pain or rock bottom to become so curious on how to remedy the pain and that is when spiritual awakenings occur. If you allow curiosity for the highest good, it’s like a ladder extending down as a guide out of the darkness. Lean into what resonates and each step will assist as information exponentially opens up, that is how we learn and evolve. Then curiosity comes from a place of joy, growth and awakening, plus sharing to help others. From there it’s a maintenance and cycle becoming closer each time.
