We recently connected with Ashley Weigl and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
I started my business from the ground up with just me at the helm and all other positions. It started from an idea – how can I work online and NOT have to teach English as a second language (what I had done in the past).
I found a business coach, invested in her course and did everything she told me to do. That meant hard work, networking, building my own website, figuring out my branding, developing skills and talking to my warm network about what I was doing. It was nerve-wracking at first but I was bound and determined I was going to be successful.
One Friday evening around 6:30, I was still working trying to onboard a new client. I finally decided it was time to hire my first team member so I could delegate those repetitive tasks and focus on business growth. Because of all the networking I had invested my time in, I already had a great pool of candidates to reach out to. I went through my collaboration tracker and decided who I wanted to offer the work to and she immediately accepted. (We’re still together BTW!). All of my contractor hires have been from my network so I highly recommend networking if you’re looking to hire or looking for work because people won’t forget you when they need the help or know someone who does.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a certified OBM, certified Dubsado Specialist and Clickup Extraordinaire. I help burnt-out business owners stop being the bottleneck and delegate like the boss they are. If you don’t think systems are sexy, no worries! My abnormal love for systems and organization takes the pain out of your pain points. I thrive working with creative business owners who love jiving on their vision but can’t make heads or tails of how to stay organized on the back end.
I work primarily with people who need help setting up systems in their business – especially ClickUp, Dubsado or SOP Manuals. (I call it the systems trifecta)
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I get on social media, my blog and my newsletter every week and I offer value related to the services I offer. I give away tons of free content, I host workshops and I love talking about how these services can help burnt out business owners uplevel without the stress.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I highly recommend using a project management tool like ClickUp along with a communication tool like Slack. I can see everything from a bird’s-eye view from ClickUp and I’m able to easily communicate on tasks, approve drafts and so much more at the click of a button.
Also, having the whole team together in a tool like Slack is great for morale as team members can get support from one another, ask questions, share what they’re up to for the weekend and more (much like water cooler talk!)
I also only have team meetings when necessary. Teams get bogged down in unnecessary meetings and valuable time is sucked away, leaving the team feeling more stressed with less time to get their work done. No bueno.
