We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashley Weber. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ashley below.
Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I started teaching Pilates young, back in 2005 when I was barely 20 and it took me 18 years of being in the career to finally venue forth and create my own Pilates Teacher Training Program and open my own Private Pilates studio: The Pilates Apothecary! I tried my own studio business once before. A few years back before the pandemic, I had a studio in my home for 2 years but it inevitably fizzled out because of the pandemic. My career has had many wins and fails, and I have learned from all of the trials and errors. I feel more emotionally mature now than I have ever been. I’m more grounded and willing to problem-solve than ever before. Also, I trust my gut instinct, am resourceful, and most importantly, I am not shy to ask for help. I believe starting my teacher training: Pilates for the People: rainbow Bridge Program, and my new Studio: The Pilates Apothecary is just the right timing! Past lessons have provided me with the knowledge to create a sustainable business. It is thrilling!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Ashley, since 2005 I have been studying, practicing, and teaching Pilates and multiple mind-body disciplines. I moved to Austin from the small Texas town of Lampasas to pursue a career in Pilates to pursue my certification in the Core Connections Pilates Program at the Pilates Center of Austin. I received over 650 Hours of training from my teacher Wendy Leblanc-Arbuckle, a master in Pilates and movement work. I am passionate about sharing knowledge of Pilates as it is foundational for healthy posture and alignment. I love learning and in 2015, I pursued my 200-Hour Yoga certification and received various other yoga certifications such as Prenatal yoga, Yin Yoga, Aerial Yoga, and Meditation. In the spirit of continued education, I recently pursued my lifelong passion for herbs and completed the Sacred Journey School of Herbalism in 2024. That same year, I wrote the Rainbow Bridge Pilates Certification Program and began teaching and certifying new Pilates trainers. I love integrating everything I have learned from Pilates, Yoga, Meditation, and Herbalism to help individuals. I believe wholeness and well-being are integrative and can be approached in many layers. My studio The Pilates Apothecary specializes in Private Pilates sessions Integrating both Pilates and Herbs to help clients reach their specific goals. As a hobby I have created and currently Host Yoga And… Podcast, a podcast where I interview mind-boy luminaries worldwide!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The worry. I had to unlearn all the worrying I was brought up with. I know that practicing being in the body practicing movement or connecting with nature like using medicinal herbs (passionflower helps calm the nervous system) helps with worry. Worry helps no one. I make a regular practice not to feed it.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
2020 was the year I learned to have my own back. Like many people, all my work dissolved I had no savings and no family to fall back on. It was just me and my two cats. Overnight I became a dog walker and started Instacart-ing for work. Turns out, I’m good at providing for myself even amid a global plague. That year I truly understood my level of work ethic, adaptability, and resilience.
