We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashley Walling. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ashley below.
Ashley, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
In 2017, I started my small business in Nashville, TN in honor of my grandmother. I had a few mason jars and wanted to do something in her memory. I painted a few of the jars and realized how much I liked creating and working on projects.
By 2018, I had my first vendor booth at Bits & Pieces Antique Boutique in Nashville, TN. My first stand started with painted mason jars, vintage, western clothing & jewelry. I also began to grow my business in craft fairs & festivals as well.
In 2019, I graduated college from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. I started a job in country music which grew my passion to incorporate western, country clothing & rhinestones within my brand.
The world of rhinestones & fringe soon became a part of my business. I developed a passion for embellishing hats, t-shirts, jackets, shoes & more.
2021, I opened an additional location at Painted Tree Marketplace in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Ash Art is now located at two stores in Middle Tennessee: Bits & Pieces Antique Boutique in Nashville, TN & Painted Tree Marketplace in Murfreesboro, TN.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and love country music. I enjoy going to concerts, festivals & shopping. I wanted to make a business where I could enjoy all of those things in one.
I am proud to be a Nashville native and being able to serve those who live here, or visit Nashville; whether it is their first time or come to town multiple times per year.
I am inspired by seeing other artists. I believe that it’s important to support local vendors. It inspires people to have hobbies outside of their day jobs. It’s a really beautiful thing getting to create items that you love and see other people wear and enjoy it.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I started my business while I was attending college in Nashville, Tennessee.
I began posting on Instagram and Facebook as well as setting up at fall festivals when I would make new jewelry & home decor items.
It later grew into a vendor booth location in 2017.
By 2019, I started a full time job once I graduated college. Later in 2021 I started my second vendor booth location.
I hope to keep growing my business and visit places across the United States which inspire my western clothing, jewelry & more side of my business.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Living in Nashville I think that a lot of people enjoy some of the same things that I love. I wanted to focus my business around things that I like- which is rhinestones, fringe & jewelry.
I know that a lot of people like different things so I think it’s important to be well rounded & unique in the items that you sell.
My location sets me apart from other vendors. Being a Nashville native I’ve seen a lot of the trends and I know what’s going to last versus what the trend of the week or month may be.
It’s important to follow trends, but I think being consistent in providing unique items what will set you apart from other vendors. You can really tell when someone enjoys making items by their booth and set up.
I may not be as experiences as other vendors but I sure do enjoy what I’m doing and creating. I’m just getting started! I look forward to all of the people and places that I may touch along my journey with my business.
