Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashley Thornton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
I have always been a creative individual since childhood. Journaling was one of my first loves in my teenage years. Little did I know that it was awakening the author inside of me. My gift to express myself/ emotions through writing and speech was the foundation of where I am today. As a dreamer I would see many things and it provoked me to seek ways to bring them to fruition.
I’ve always had dreams and my mother would tell me to write them down and speak about them if they were deep. In 2009 I had a life changing dream and it was that my mother would pass away. She had given me a journal with a mother and daughter on it. I wrote the dream and I also went and told her. This was the moment in my life where the girl that journaled would give birth to the author within. My dream in 2009 which I learned to be a vision turned my mother/daughter journal into my first manuscript. November 2009 after my dream my mother shared her diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. My mother’s death allowed the very journal she had given me prior to the dream to become my first published book in 2018, 8 years after her passing ” The Closed Chapter of an Open Book”.
I had written my book as I was going through the grieving and healing process. I prayed about releasing my story to the public. I was lead to seek out publishing options. I had to find a graphic designer, editor and needed a photographer. Once my idea of publishing began to fall in place and I took the necessary steps, I began the process. I made the necessary investments and decided to self- publish. It took a lot of motivation to get things done. I began to get my ideas together and made plans for a book launch. I created my support team and had my book signing in January 2019! I was able to do a book club from publishing my book, speak at grief events and mentor those who experienced the same to similar loss. I began Christian blogging through the process as well.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I strongly believe that my authenticity and character helped me build the reputation I have. When people know who you are and your character it is easier to connect with others.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients have been word of mouth/events. Many people reach out and connect by way of them being referred by others. Other new/potential clients I end up engaging with at events that I’m speaking at, vending my books or attending for support.
