We recently connected with Ashley Taylor and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk I have ever taken was taking the leap and moving my business into a suite. At the time I was 22 and I was working full-time in the wellness field and traveling to clients on the side, building my business however I could. Unfortunately, I did not drive, and traveling to these clients cut deeply into my profit margin. I was hemorrhaging money and I knew if I wanted my business to prosper I would have to take a different path. This thought process led me to book an appointment to tour a local coworking space for entrepreneurs in the beauty and wellness industry. Before I arrived at the space I was under the impression that this would be the perfect home for my business but I was wrong. As I was leaving, the woman giving me the tour made me aware of another space that was being renovated that may be a better fit if I was willing to see it.
Without a second thought, I jumped in a car with my now landlord and drove to the space that now houses Amethyst Magnolia. When I arrived, they were in the midst of construction, the rooms were halfway finished and construction materials were laid throughout the space. at first glance, the space was not much to look at but I saw it and fell in love. Within a month, I was signing a lease and figuring out how I wanted my suite to look.
I spent a lot of time feeling in the dark and figuring out the direction I wanted my business to grow but I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. I turned my side hustle into my main business now, over a year later, my business is making leaps and bounds each day.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Ashley Taylor, I am a licensed massage therapist and esthetician and I provide massages, facials, and body contouring. As a child, I knew that all I ever wanted to do was help people. I started my journey by attending college for biology with a pre-med concentration, but as time progressed I knew that it wasn’t the right path for me. When i took a step back and reassessed my goals i found massage and the rest was history.
Here at Amethyst Magnolia i provide customized services catered to your specific needs. My massage facial and body contouring services are all fully customizable to exactly what your body needs. I also provide at home self care tips and stretches for my massage clients to maintain the results the recieved during their session as well as handpicked products so that my facial clients can see real results in their skin.
In the two years that Amethyst Magnolia has been in business the service list continues to grow to ensure that all clients are able to have a experience that meets their needs and the body care line (my line of handmade body butters, massage candles, and body scrubs) continues to grow so that my clients can continue their self care at home.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being in business is more than what you know and more about who you know. I would say networking has to be the most helpful for succeeding in my field. For many, massage is an intimate service that requires a level of trust for the client, actually knowing your service provider, or being introduced by someone that they trust has gotten me many clients. Facials are the same way. Your face is the first thing people notice when they see you, so many are hesitant to get facials and are usually more willing once they have someone that can vouch for the service provider. Networking and growing my brand name has allowed me to establish this trust and helped me gain clientele.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
A million times yes. Massage and esthetics are two beautiful fields of work that I am happy to be apart of. Seeing the relaxation on the faces of my clients after they’ve gotten a massage or the shock when they see inches drop off of their waist after body contouring brings me joy. I love to help others discover new ways to heal themselves and find peace whether that be through massage, facials, or body contouring. I love what I do and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
