We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashley Taylor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley , thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to enhance the confidence and inner beauty within each client. I want to create a laid back, luxury experience that leaves every client feeling like the best version of themselves.
I believe that every person should feel beautiful and confident and I find it an honor when I’m chosen to be part of that experience. Before stepping into the world of makeup artistry, I went to school for Psychology. I have a passion for the overall study of the human psyche, and I love that I’m able to help people to see their inner beauty brought to the surface through makeup.
Because of my laid-back persona, I like to create a comfortable yet luxurious experience for my clients. By using professional and prestigious brands and products, I’m able to create a look that will last all day- specifically for my bridal clients. They can feel assured that their look will last through sweating, happy tears, dancing, and humidity!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a licensed esthetician and professional makeup artists since 2018. Beauty by Ashley Taylor specializes in bridal hair and makeup artistry but we cater to all events and special occasions. While our style is best described as classic and timeless, we tailor specific looks to each client based on their desires and preferences.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the growth of my business as a whole. Since starting, BBAT has been recognized as The Knot’s Best of Weddings, I’ve been featured in Popsugar and David’s Bridal, and I’m a finalist for The SkinGames Makeup Competition taking place in March 2023 (keep an eye out for it!) On an interpersonal level, I’ve also gained confidence and helped other makeup artists grow their business.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that I get to grow my career doing what I love. From seeing my client’s face light up when I hand them the mirror, to feeling like part of the family on wedding day while we’re getting glam, it all means so much to me!

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Sort of- Right out of Esthetician school I began working in a salon focusing mainly on skincare and eyelash extensions. I always knew being a full time makeup artist was my goal, but it wasn’t sustainable at first. I would take a few bookings here and there, mostly on the weekends, while working during the week in the salon. When I felt comfortable enough to leave my full time job at the salon I decided to go full time free-lancing and have been doing so since fall 2021! The key milestone and factor into deciding it was time to take this full time was when I was turning down opportunities due to being booked at my salon already. Although I loved my salon clientele, my heart was in the makeup aspect of my career!
