We recently connected with Ashley Strickland and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with important influences in our lives. Is there a historical figure you look up to?
Kobe Bryant. His work ethic was unmatched. Others around him couldn’t help but be inspired to work harder & grow. I’ve learned to keep the mentality that it’s only me vs me. I am my own competition and I am the only person standing in my way. There is literally no limit except the ones I place on myself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been a person who took pride in doing the “right” thing. I got good grades, participated in every activity imaginable, stayed out of trouble, graduated college, got a “good” job with a “good” salary & “good” benefits. I should have been happy right? I was for a while but I soon realized it was my ego that was satisfied, not my soul. After working in the commercial insurance industry for 13 years, I grew tired of being unfulfilled.
As a true romantic, I always loved weddings. I even dabbled a wedding planning shortly after college. While I learned planning wasn’t for me, my love for weddings remained. Along with weddings, I always had a love for photography. When I decided to give photography a try as a side gig, naturally I gravitated to wedding photography.
I designed the photography experience I provide my couples to not only provide them with amazing images but to make sure they have a good time while doing it. It’s always an awesome feeling to be selected to photograph a couple’s love story. It’s an honor I do not take lightly.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect for me is my ability to show someone just how beautiful they are as well as how beautiful their love story really is. I love showing my clients the back of my camera during a shoot because I can literally see their confidence and mood elevate from just a simple snapshot.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for my business is referrals from past clients & wedding planners.
