We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Stone recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have any key partners or vendors – if so, how’d you find them and start working with them?
One thing I have definitely grown to appreciate in my line of work is networking. Vendors help each other out! You cannot do it on your own! Building a strong team to not only seamlessly work together during events but also promote each other when one gets a new client is priceless. I used to think I had to do this on my own… but this is one way of working smarter not harder. What is that saying? Teamwork makes the dream work.
This method applies to other vendors in the wedding industry such as Makeup Artist, Hair Stylist, DJ’s, Florist, Venues… and even other Photographers! If a photographer is already booked for a date, they are more likely to refer the inquiry to you!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a photographer based in NC. I love to shoot weddings, couples, families, seniors and newborns. My business has grown with the clients I have worked with over the past 16 years. My style is a mix between candid lifestyle images and classic posed portraits. My imagery is edited to be more of a “moody” tone with rich earthy colors. Some people call it “vintage” when they see it. I am super proud to be trusted to document many of life’s special moments for my clients. I have often heard of photographers being “Storytellers” and that is exactly what I feel like describes it best. I love writing stories through images. These are the memories left of a moment and the heirlooms passed down to younger generations. I am truly blessed by this job.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission has changed over the years… I used to feel like I had to book every client that came my way. Now I strive to connect with my clients and make sure I am the right fit for the job. I want there to be a true connection with my couples/families. I want their overall experience to be excellent as well as the photos. Not every inquiry will be the right fit…. and that is ok. It does not make you a failure.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social Media is a great tool for building your brand. I am thankful for this platform but also …. goodness it can be a full-time job. I would say tagging all vendors involved on a shoot (mainly weddings) is the easiest way to get your name out there. I also love to share the gallery with these vendors (with my client’s approval) so they can share it on their social media. This allows you to stretch your reach a little more. I am slowly getting into the reels on Insta… It does get you more reach. Clients want to know the person behind the brand. It is important to put YOUR face on their every once in a while. Share information about who you are and what you like. The more the client feels like they connect with you the more likely they are to book with you.
