Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashley Stallworth. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ashley, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
As a little girl, I’ve always dreamt of being a “STAR!” I just knew in my heart of hearts that my name would reign supreme. I would imagine my name in lights while on stage as the crowd would cheer and sing along. At the age of 14, I had a thought of what would be my name shown in the lights and after some thought, I was given the name Sencier. I knew that the name chosen had to be authentic and true to who I am and what I stand for. I would lay across my bedroom floor practicing signing autographs in order to prepare for my big dream to become reality. I began perfecting my craft by joining the church choir and my High School band program which built my foundation and love for music even greater. One day in church, the pianist was without a drummer and I felt the need to assist but oh was I nervous! I sat back while fear began to set in with doubt chasing. With such emotions running rapidly, I refused to allow them to take over and chose to sit behind the set for the first time where I would then become a church musician for many years ahead. As time passed and I had gotten older, my dream of being a star had dwindled and taken a back seat while reality had become the driving force of the present. Although the dream and diminished, music never left me and I couldn’t turn my back to it ever! Through the years, I had written and composed my own songs only to remain in notebooks never to be heard until my dear friend Toni encouraged me to believe in my talents and skills once more. Toni had built a home studio with all the bells and whistles, ready to birth the dream again. As we worked together, I began to learn more about music and the equipment functions and uses. As I learned more, I gained a new love and skill which was producing. Although I was back with my first love, I still remained with the view of it only remaining an additional skill but nothing too serious. Until one day I came across a motivational video that spoke on the disservice of not utilizing your skills and talents. The statement that stuck with me the most was, “ You’re doing a disservice to yourself but most importantly to God who gave them to you in the first place!” That’s when I realized that your dream(s) aren’t unreachable or just a thought to never become reality. In fact, it becomes reality as soon as you make the choice to chase it. Just three years ago, I began to chase that old dream and perfecting a new discovered skill in music production. The dream still lives and motivate me everyday! So for anyone that has that dream still awaiting in the clouds, reach up and pull it down. It’s waiting on you!

Ashley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I often get the question, “Where did you get the name Sencier?” At the age of 14, I thought of what name would I go by? I wanted a name that was meaningful and true to myself. After some thought, Sencier came to mind and I began writing and signing my name on every sheet of paper I could find. I like to described myself as just a small town giant with big dreams. Coming from a small town, Daleville , Alabama; dreams are just dreams. I believe that your dream(s) become reality as soon as you choose to chase them. I’ve always dreamt of making music a career but I didn’t believe it was possible until I gained the understanding and new perspective of disservice. I’ve always been a music lover but more so desired to compose my own works. Music production is a skill I developed overtime and didn’t realize the hidden talents I possess. I produce based off of emotions, feelings and vibes. I think of how music makes me feel depending on my current mood and how it can uplift when down. I tend to keep the consumer and my fellow music lovers in mind when creating. I intend for my music to positively impact the listener and/or artist it reaches. I am most proud when the works I’ve created from the soul impacts one’s mood and/or life in a positive way. Whether it is lyrics I’ve written or music I’ve produced, if it is impactful and uplifts the downs, my job is complete!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and a producer is positively impacting others. My intent is always to uplift, encourage and motivate through my musical works.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I am currently still building my audience via social media lol. I am still learning as I go but I’ve learned to just start. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have all the equipment in order to start. One must start somewhere and it’ll get better gradually overtime. I started chasing my dream with only $200. Equipment for music production can be very expensive but I learned to not focus on not having everything in order to begin. I’ve never been one to post much on social media but I’ve learned to embrace a key part of development in social media. The advice I’d give anyone wanting to start building a social media presence is to just start! You must start somewhere why not today!!
