We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashley Shamoon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ashley below.
Ashley, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
When I got into real estate photography, I didn’t just want to take pictures of houses—I wanted to help agents actually sell their listings by making each home stand out in a unique way. It wasn’t just about a paycheck for me; it was something I loved doing. Over the years, I created a training method that helped people with zero camera experience grow into amazing photographers, which has been just as rewarding as the work itself. After five years shooting real estate, I’ve realized my true passion is using photography to tell stories that connect with people. I plan on publishing a book soon, and it will be all about my personal journey with photography and how I’ve been able to help other photographers grow their skills and create a masterpiece.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a photographer, primarily work in architectural photography but I do portrait as well. I’ve worked in real estate photography for the past 5 years, doing everything from creating a technique and style of shooting to helping teach and train others to do what I do too, and be successful at it. I’ve also had the privilege of leading several creative photography workshops that help grow your skill and also encourage others to brainstorm and challenge each other creatively.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped build my reputation was being honest and upfront with agents on pricing, the style of photography they would receive when booking and also always delivering on time.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to see and hear people’s response to your work. Next is being able to teach someone to do something they’ve never tried to do, and help them grow their skill. One of the most recent photographers I helped train to do aerial videography, and you can see some of their work looking at the city of Fort Worth’s city hall building. Now, I personally don’t fly a drone, I never really got into it much, but I know what a good, creative take is when it comes to aerial photography and it’s been amazing to watch how someone can go from only doing aerial still shots to flying an amazing aerial video. When the student outdoes the teacher, there is just something so rewarding about it, it’s a very proud moment. If you’re in the DFW area and a realtor, well then the chances are you’ve heard of the company Top Down Photography. Well, I’m the lead photographer, trainer, and have run the day to day, also my husband is one of the owners. We had a vision when starting TDP, and I’m happy to say it was a success. We’re currently shutting down, as many creative minds have done before, when something has run its course, it’s good to know when to pass the torch, and that’s what we’re doing now. To everyone that worked with us at TDP, thank you! It’s been a pleasure. If you’re looking to work with someone who can do what we offered in the world of real estate photography in the DFW metroplex, go to phoenixmedianow.com.
