We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Randall recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, appreciate you joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
It was in the era of Pre Pandemic, I had finally had a space in my house for all of my art. I had it all set up so it was easy to access. Which allowed me to spend more time creating because I didn’t have to pack it up each time. I was experiencing some stress with some things going on in my life and art is one of my outlets. I just needed to sit down and throw something onto a canvas.
Without much thought I just started throwing some color, blending and dabbing on my blank canvas. With every stroke I felt the stress release through the tips of the bristles. My piece turned into a beautiful ballerina posing ! I thought you know let me just post that I have art for sale on Fb. And not to long after I got a notification that some wanted a custom piece! I was shocked and exhilarated! I created two custom pieces and she absolutely loved them! I will always remember that day!

Ashley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am originally from California but now live in Florida! I have always painted or drawn since I was little. I have learned different and new techniques by watching videos and trial and error.
I am always up to something so even through the pandemic I took up digital art and taught myself how to use the program.
I have illustrated 5 children’s books with two of them in the process of being published and one more in the works!
I also created a business with one of my best friends called Humble Hostesses and we do grazing tables and charcuterie boxes! She handles Charleston region and I handle Orlando!
I am constantly trying to do new things and find ways to spread my creativity!

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I will share a little of how my Humble Hostesses partner came about. She and I are best friends and I was helping her out one day taking care of a clients house. This client mentioned she was looking for a cater for this special event coming up. We looked at each other and said.. we can do it! We had never done this before but we quickly learned this was something we loved and are really good at doing! So that was the start of our Humble Hostesses business! We’ve expanded and do charcuterie boxes/boards too!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I am always honest on my posts. I share the fun that we have and show all the work we’ve done with a cohesive look. Using Reels is crucial And being active and post often. That’s what has helped us grow on socials!
