Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashley Palmer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Ashley , thanks for joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
I received my first client from a Facebook post. It was an old high school classmate that allowed me to plan their last minute vacation to St. Lucia. I was extremely excited and happy that someone trusted me enough to create an experience for them. Prior to this trip I marketed a lot but didn’t receive any traction. I started to question if I was really cut out for this. When my first client officially booked their trip it gave me the confidence I needed to keep going and reassured me that I was meant to do this!
Ashley , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am not just a travel agent, I create experiences for others. I love when people give me a budget to work with and allow me to create. I specialize in domestic and international vacations. I was introduced to this industry by a close friend, but even before her introducing me to the business side my parents were the first people to introduce me to travel. One of my very first vacations as a child was out of the country to Germany for my 3rd birthday.
A problem that I have solved for my client is finding affordable vacation packages. I take pride in being able to find the best deals possible for my clients. I give my client’s a luxurious experience that is budget-friendly.
What I am most proud of is that I am consistently trying to give the best customer service possible. I am always looking to see what I can do to make my client’s vacation planning process easier. I am not afraid to go the extra mile and I always love doing something special for each client that I have.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my social media audience was challenging because I started a new page. When you create a new page it’s hard to grab people’s attention. I decided to start posting on my personal Instagram, and Facebook page and purchasing Meta business advertisements to run daily. My following is still a work in progress, but I know that the more consistent I am the more it will grow. My best advice is to have your friends repost your page and not be afraid to pay for advertising. I was able to get a few sales through Meta business advertisements.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The entire journey for me so far has been about resilience. I started my business in what is considered the slow season for traveling. It has been hard to continue to post and push forward when I felt like no one recognized my business. Especially when family and friends don’t support or decide to use other agents to plan their vacations. However, I do not let that stop me! I keep being consistent and learned that it’s okay if the person closest to you does not support you because as long as someone supports you that is all that matters.
