We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashley Niven. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ashley below.
Alright, Ashley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve been performing since I was young in the church, then soon after in theater and Bush Gardens. I was also a Sony recording artist in my teens. Toured with Britney Spears, *NSYNC, and Destiny’s Chold to name a few.
Ashley , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Like I said I started very young with a lot of success and then I was done with it all for a while. I moved to Denver about 11 years ago and came here to really start over and pursue music. I played in a couple bands on the regular— Tiger Party and Analog Son. Now my most important project is French Cuffs with Tim Philpott, George Horn and, Connor Terrones. These guys are my dream come true as a band and I’ve never felt more like home artistically.
We had a song come out on February9th, one on 2.22 and one to follow on 3.7
The Ep is called Great Things
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of this life is carving your own way— you don’t have to do what others do to keep your boat afloat. Getting closer and closer to who you really are is the most rewarding part of being an artist. Normal expectations no longer apply to you.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I got divorced from someone I love very much in the local scene and it definitely caused a lot of issues for me personally. I had to deal with lots of other people’s opinions on my life and I think it definitely sparked a lot of creativity and strength.
