Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashley Moore . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ashley , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
In the face of being misunderstood and mischaracterized due to my socioeconomic background, I encountered a transformative experience last year. While immersing myself in a diverse circle, I discovered the challenges of navigating misconceptions based on differences. Despite facing mistreatment within my own community, my commitment to uplifting others remained unwavering. This journey highlighted the urgency to address classism and ageism within the black community—a crucial step towards fostering unity and healing. We often feel the need to fight for space or step on each other when we can all coexist together and each shine in our own way.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Raised in Decatur, GA, I graduated from Hampton University in December 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. Currently, I’m cultivating my social media brand, “amoorechicworld,” on Instagram, where I share fashion inspiration. Serving as a mood board, it merges lifestyle, music, and fashion aesthetics. I’m enthusiastic about styling clients or collaborating in music and fashion. With a background in singing and songwriting since middle school, my influences span various genres and artists like Victoria Monet, Mariah the Scientist, Tyla, Danileigh, Tems, Tinashe, and Ama Lou. I prioritize staying true to my artistic self despite market pressures, valuing creative authenticity. Additionally, I enjoy occasional sketching, particularly fashion illustrations inspired by airbrush early 2000s cartoon art, reminiscent of the movie ATL. Self-taught, I explore different sketching techniques through online videos.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The continuous drive to create and experiment is a gift that rewards itself. The ability to step back and observe what you’ve crafted is like seeing a piece of yourself where you’ve poured your absolute best.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In my perspective, society can best support artists, creatives, and a thriving creative ecosystem by fostering an environment that values and invests in the arts. This includes ensuring accessible education, providing financial support, and promoting diverse representation. Crucial to this support is creating platforms that celebrate creative expressions and fostering collaboration between artists and industries. Recognizing the societal importance of creativity contributes to a vibrant ecosystem. Emphasizing a welcoming culture is vital, especially in the age of social media, where healthy competition should prevail. It’s crucial to acknowledge and credit others’ creativity, combating the industry’s tendency to downplay “smaller” artists. Room for coexistence exists, and the focus should shift from materialism and ego to nurturing a collective environment for artistic growth. Diversifying conversations and promoting positive versatility can drive impactful change instead of perpetuating negativity.
