We recently connected with Ashley Montejo and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ashley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Coming up with a business name isn’t always easy. You want something that you”ll love forever and something that in a couple years still flows with the direction that you are moving in. It took me a while to realize that what I love most and something I would never want to change are my children so I named my bakery after them.
Ashley , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Ashley, I’m a mom of 3, a wife and I have always loved the kitchen. Cooking has always been a passion of mine. When i started looking at collages’ and what i wanted to study the only thing that excited me was culinary arts. I knew I wanted to concentrate on Pastry and baking and that’s exactly what i did.
We create custom cakes and desserts including cookies, cake-sicles, brownies, cakepops, cupcakes and more for all of your events. Whether it be a small get together or your wedding, I love being able to create and bring a customers vision to life. Matching a customers theme, colors and thoughts from a conversation over the phone or email is always the goal. I love hearing “this is even better than what I had invision” or “this is exactly what I wanted!” it’s great to hear that from someone that trusted me to create something for their special day.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I started baking for fun, until i decide this is what makes me happy and what I want to do with my life. I remember when my parents bought me my first baking kit and my mom signed me up for classes at A.C.Moore arts and craft. They would drive me to classes once or twice a week and that was the first introduction to baking that I had. From there I got to go to culinary school and learn from amazing chefs. Starting my own business and working for myself has it challenges like keeping up with trends and learning how to navigate working full time, being a full time mom and still making time for my business.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I think life always has a way of working itself out. I had plans to hit the floor running from a young age but I was blessed with 3 kids in the middle of that. Learning to pivot life to make everything work for all of us included a lot of late nights and running around. Having three kids has really put into perspective what is important to me and that’s 100% being there for them, so how could I still make sure my business didn’t suffer because of it? Change my mind set and change how I was juggling everything on my plate. I had to come up with a plan for the business that didn’t affect my time with my family. I had to change up how many orders I could take in a week, schedule out my hours and organize myself so all aspects of my life worked.
