We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashley Littlefield a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We believe kindness is contagious and so we’d love for you to share with us and our audience about the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
Kindness shows up unexpectedly, and showing others when they least expect it is so impactful. That’s how photography is and the power it can give to others in a confidence-building way. The kindest action someone demonstrated to me through kindness was taking an order at the cashier during my first job working at The Habit Burger Grill. A young woman wearing a peacock necklace wore a vintage charm that looked ravishing on her. She later explained it was her Grandmother’s, and I noticed the energy it gave off when we first connected. I complimented the necklace and thought there was something unique about it. The young woman told me the story of her mission to pass it on and how she would like to share it with me as a stranger. It was so meaningful to me because I wish the same mission towards photography for others. A Polaroid or a photo can truly express a timeline and unique story to people who hold the images and how they can pass them on for generations without needing anything in return.
Ashley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! I am Ashley Dawn Littlefield, a Multi-media Artist. I am so grateful to share my creative story with others to support their growth, personally or professionally.
My journey as an artist started at a young age when I learned my passion for music and learning instruments that helped shape my experiences. Later, I found myself following in my father’s footsteps as a photographer during my college studies and then as a production artist in my first full-time career. As I begin to take leaps of courage in new roles, such as supporting Creatives and Journalists as a Junior Graphic Designer supporting Newspaper Page Design, I have learned it is essential to appreciate what you can learn and how you can help others with the time you put into your work—understanding the importance of supporting a community where your heart lies.
Another community that captures a spark is the music industry. I have written over a hundred articles supporting music, served retailers such as Guitar Center in Orange County, learned social media, and offered marketing support at a music-tech startup in Los Angeles. This demonstrates my eagerness to share music with a community that can strike a chord in the hearts of others while cultivating passion.
My goal is to support creatives in a market where my skillsets can uplift people as clients and ultimately create friendships through shared values. I started my own business, Ashley Littlefield Studio LLC, last year and have produced music on Ableton since 2018. I offer creative design, photography, and documentation solutions to those who wish to celebrate, share their creative vision, or have fun being unique to their spirit!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I was twelve, I was diagnosed with Dyslexia, which created setbacks in my school and learning. As I learned different ways to respond to feedback and cope, I have found a positive way toward the common goals of those I wish to support, including my vision and aspirations. Failure is the best way to learn, to keep trying as a means to success no matter the outcome that may be at stake, and never to give up your heart.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Kindness and a positive outlook have the power to change many situations. What matters is how you respond to your market and your initial mission. Film photography captures the soul of people and accurately represents the mood that photographers consider. Staying true to yourself and your client’s vision while having a unique mindset and attitude can set your reputation apart.
