Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashley Kravitz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ashley, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
With the streaming business we saw a big uptick in work opportunities that came with all the new shows and movies being produced, and then the pandemic hit and there was a lull before things picked up again. Now we are dealing with the union strikes which is once again putting a damper on work opportunities. This business is not for the faint of heart. You’ve got to be able to maintain a steady steam of income even during the downtimes. I’ve been able to diversify and have a variety of clients that need my services.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I always knew that I wanted to work in the entertainment industry. I had no relatives or family friends to guide me or help but I was able to persevere and build a niche business where I clear intellectual property for movies and television shows. I think my timing was honestly perfect as it was when smaller companies were starting to evolve and needing their own services rather than go through the studio system which allowed them more freedom. I was able to capitalize on that and build a Client base.. I feel very blessed to have been home raising my kids while building my business.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Part of my job is being the “No” person however, no one likes to be told that they cannot do something or use something in the project that could be a potential liability. Over the years, I’ve been able to pivot and explain another avenue that is not as risky. This has truly been a learning curve and something that I am constantly striving to improve.
Any advice for managing a team?
