We recently connected with Ashley Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ashley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
My first client was a coworker who’s daughter was turning 16 Ann’s she wanted something special for her. I designed a Paris theme birthday set up in her home with food. Her cake was very basic and not all that good looking but she loved it!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the business due to COVID-19. My last event was March 13, 2020 and I was not booked for another event due to the pandemic. I was bored and sitting at home thinking of ways that I can make income since I’m a stay at home mom. I always would make cakes for my son‘s birthdays, so I figured why not make this into a business. My first client was a coworker from a previous job. The cake was not great but it taste delicious. I started posting cakes that I would make it home just to practice my craft and more and more clients reached out to me to make a cake for their special event. I, I love making cakes for special events because I seen the smile on a persons face makes my day. The fact that someone trust me enough to add some sparkle and sweetness to their day makes my day. I strive to be the best and offer the best service to my clients like I would want a business to do for me.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Initially, I didn’t think that I could do this baking cakes for a living. I didn’t think it was a lucrative business. There were bumps in the road that I hit along the way, but I just took some adjusting to give my clients what they wanted, but also to make a profit for myself. Once I got my name out there that I make cakes, I raise my prices and prayed that my current clientele would stay and then new clients would book with me.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I am still working on building my social media, but I will say consistency is the key. I was never good at posting consistently lol. I started posting every picture of a cake I made good or bad, posting information about cake., Making Reels and and going live to boost my page. I learn the more you post the more you’re seen.
