Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashley Holmes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ashley, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?

This is so funny, because my husband and I were just discussing this while brushing our teeth this morning. One day we would like to open our very own wedding venue and I love the idea of being old and happy and some bride’s grand daughter is telling me that she grew up looking at the photos I took, hanging around her grand mothers house and always wanted her wedding day to be memorialized and felt the way her grandmother’s was, and that why she was getting married at my venue. I know know that’s a little far ahead to think, but I want my work to be remembered as intentional and emotional. I want my brides to watch their wedding video every year with their kids and feel all those same feelings through wiser eyes. I want grand daughters and their moms to pour over wedding albums and have their cheeks hurt from smiling along with that beautiful woman who raised them on her love story. I want parents to remember the first week they brought their new baby home, and adult children to have lasting memories captured in a photo with their since past grandparents. I feel like I was blessed with a passion for creating these moments and I want to hand them over in boatloads to every inquiry I receive.

I feel so incredibly honored people trust with the memories of their life story. I selfishly get to be a fly on the wall of some of the best moments people experience and it’s incredibly fulfilling. I want my legacy to be, I guess in a few words, behind the lens of peoples most treasure memories.

Ashley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I have always been passionate about art. I grew up dancing, playing instruments, painting, singing, I mean the whole gamut. Shortly have the birth of my first baby, I lost myself in the loneliness of being a new mom in a new town where I didn’t know anyone and even if I did, there was nothing to do for miles. My husband, who is my biggest cheerleader, actually bought me my first camera for Mothers Day. What started out as pictures of my baby and flowers, has turned into a business that can support my family and brings me the most joy I didn’t even think a job could bring you.

I pride myself on my dedication to each client who hires me. I pour my love for creativity and authenticity into everything I work on. I want to collaborate on the vision my clients have and expand it. My goal is for 100% client satisfaction and if we don’t leave our time together friends for life, I did it wrong.

How did you build your audience on social media?

Social Media is an ever-changing jigsaw puzzle that is almost impossible to keep up with. I can’t dispute the success that other creators have through working the algorithm, but I haven’t been able to figure it out. It must be luck, but I post what I feel the happiest about and really just try to be myself. It’s not the most complex marketing strategy thats for sure! Someone once told me that I wouldn’t be the Photographer or Videographer for everybody, but that I would be for lots of somebodies, and that I should just try to market for that little community of people. So that’s been my secret sauce and really what has drawn my dream clients to me. That community continues to grow and grow and has me traveling all over the world now! I feel like what we all really crave is authenticity and human connection, so that’s what I try to lead with.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

I would say my entire business has been built on the referrals of others. What a huge honor and compliment! I remember when I used to charge $30 for 1 hour session and practically beg people to round up their love ones and get behind my lens! But I put in the work to deliver quality product and kind of like a snowball I just just more and more work.
