We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashley Hasker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with ashley below.
Ashley, appreciate you joining us today. Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
I would say the most important advice is: Promote Diversity in Hiring! Broaden recruitment channels to reach diverse talent pools. Consider partnering with organizations that focus on underrepresented groups. Then make sure you have mandatory educational trainings on inclusiveness available for all leadership and employees so they can understand how to operate effectively in that environment. I experienced a workplace before where no safe space was created for employees who looked like me to discuss any challenges without the fear of retaliation. It was uncomfortable and dreadful. The leadership team had lack of knowledge on how to collaborate with other cultures and it divided the company vs created a community. Inclusivity isn’t just about policies-it’s about creating a culture where everyone feels they belong and can thrive.

Ashley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a Houston born creative in the arts and entertainment industry. I started off singing and dancing through my school years. Then God showed me another version of myself in my early 20’s and that’s when I dipped into my acting career. Which led me to learning all the different styles of my craft. I love it here! I can introduce myself as a IMDb credited Director, Actress, Producer, etc. One thing that I’m currently proud of is learning that a film I was an Assistant Director on “ The Dichotomy of Hattie McDaniel” have been chosen to open up the San Diego Black Film Festival 2025. I’m so proud of the entire cast and crew. See you soon California!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Definitely networking! Although I’m an introvert at heart, when I’m on assignments I push myself to get to know the people I work with to a certain degree because usually they have similar interests and can recommend you moving forward. Word of mouth has gotten me through so many doors. Til this this day there are gigs I’ve worked that I don’t know who gave them my contact information to book me. So thankful that God continues to put me in rooms I’m not even in through others.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Staff Me Up app. I use it faithfully. Tap in if you’re in my line of work I mentioned above! They promote a lot of crew work for films, live events, commercials, etc.
