Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashley Earley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ashley, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage all of my social media platforms myself. While I love creating content about my business, services, and life, it can often be quite the challenge to post consistently on top of already trying to keep up with the ever-changing trends. However, anytime I receive a compliment or comment on how I make editing look exciting and interesting, it warms my heart to know that I am expanding the world of editing one post at a time. Owning a small business also means that promoting and marketing is the lifeline of my company. It is the sales pitch that expresses to my audience who I am are and what I offer to my potential clients.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the freelance editing industry in the summer of 2021 after graduating with distinction from the University of Colorado Boulder, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing. I’d been writing since I was fourteen-years-old and started dabbling with editing once I began college in 2016.
When I graduated during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was really taking a leap of faith by starting my own company, Earley Editing, LLC. I only had one thought in mind, however, and that was to help writers share their creative projects and “Book Babies” with the world.
Throughout achieving my English—Creative Writing degree, I provided extensive verbal and written feedback to countless short stories for classmates, and had edited and provided extensive feedback for several full-length novels as well. I’d also written, revised, and rewritten numerous of my own novels and short stories. All of which made me feel confident about doing the same with writers with dreams of publishing.
Now, I provide the extensive feedback for authors determined to write their best book. I offer Developmental Editing, Line Editing, Proofreading, and full-service editing packages (Gold Editing Package and Platinum Editing Package). Many clients love the breakdown of the payment plan options Earley Editing, LLC offers them while also receiving the services I provide. A book cover designer has even been added to the Earley Editing team in order to provide clients with fantastic covers on top of editing for their wonderful story. This way I can offer them the best and most well-rounded service possible for their manuscripts.
As a writer, I tend to lean into fantasy or horror due to my love of all things creepy. As an editor, I love reading a little bit of everything. Give me that steamy, forbidden romance, give me vampires, or even that young lovey-dovey stuff with all the twists and turns!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
As with any business, it’s about making connections and keeping them. With Earley Editing, LLC, I have turned to social media to not only increase views for my business and services, but to also maintain relationships with those who I have worked with and with those who might be potential clients. Through comments and direct messages, I am able to stay up to date with my clientele about their works, potential needs, or even whats going on in their day-to-day lives. As Michael Scott from The Office said, “People are business”. I will try to go above and beyond for my clients and even my potential clients, who are looking for an editing services prior to publishing, in order to ensure that I can help make their work as well-rounded as possible. This is my strategy for growing my clientele and business.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being a writer myself, and having the opportunity to work with other writers, I have come to learn one thing. As cheesy as it sounds, the most rewarding thing about being an author, artist, and editor is being able to share my stories and the stories of others with the world. We all have the chance to share our visions of the reality around us or the reality we wish to create. Through editing, I get to feel as though I can make these stories the best they can be before being released to the world. I love what I do, and I do what I love. This job as a whole is a reward to me!
