We recently connected with Ashley Cummins and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ashley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
To be successful is having the desire to be successful and intentional in your purpose. Success is not always measured by money at least I would like to hope so. Success is the dedication and drive a person has to accomplish their goals and obstacles. My theory comes from several people that I know. They work so hard at what they do. Some for years before they even see a financial gain. Should we consider them not successful if they are not profiting financially from their journey in that moment? That’s something to think about. But in my eyes they are even more successful for having the motivation to keep going despite the odds against them.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello my name is Ashley Cummins. I began my journey of event planning about 7 years ago. I have always had an eye for décor and I tend to like nice things. I started doing spa parties first only for little girls. Then I added tent parties shortly after. They were really trending at the time. I loved all the pink and glizzy girly things about doing those parties. I had so much fun! Not only did I decorate I was the host. I polished the nails and toes, gave mini facials. I did it all! I always wanted my little pretty girls to feel good about themselves. Fast forward to know I have added so much more to my list. Luxury picnics, baby showers, intimate events, engagement set ups. I can do it all. I have also started creating my own props using wood! I’m slowly making my way to eventually provide rental items as well. I have been loving the craft life.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding my business has been pretty hard. I invest my own money from from my jobs. (I work 2 full time jobs) and I also just invest what I make from events back into the business to keep growing in some aspects. So to be honest I don’t really profit from it at the moment. I’m patient! I do plan to eventually try a business loan soon to help with inventory. I believe my hardwork will pay off in due time.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is a gift and a curse at the same time. It does help a lot when people see your work for themselves and refer you to potential clients. So being able to post my work is a big plus. That’s mainly how I gained a following by posting my work and I invested in a few marketing ads. I do think that I can do more. That is something that I will have to work on.
