We recently connected with Ashley Chukwu and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Oh that’s a tough one lol they’re truly great, I think they’ve done a great deal of things right .If I had to pick one thing that was really the game changer, it is that the word no has little power over me. They taught me to never take “no” for an answer. It’s made me extremely determined and dedicated to my goals. Any time I hear “no” I know that either I’m not talking to the right person or that I gotta come harder. That’s honestly been essential in my personal life and has brought me really far with Chewing with Chu, as well.
Ashley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course! My name is Ashley Chukwu, blogger and content creative behind ,food and wine blog, Chewing with Chu. For as long as I could remember, I’ve always loved cooking for my loved ones. When the pandemic hit, I started trying new recipes and I thought it would be fun to share the recipes I’ve perfected with the world. As soon as I create a new dish I’m already thinking about which wine would pair best. In my mind, food and wind just naturally go hand in hand. It was really authentic and easy for me to also showcase my love for wine on my platform. In addition to wine recommendations, I also share wine tips. I really wanted others to get a better understanding of wine and feel really comfortable branching out and trying new wines. Simply put, Chewing with Chu is the one stop shop for elevating your dining experience. Across my platforms you can find delicious recipes, local dining recommendations, fun and relatable wine tips, suggestions for wine related events around the city, and wine reviews.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Everything is content! If I’m trying a new recipe, I’m recording it. If I’m visiting a new restaurant, I’m making a review. I made my content a part of my life so then it doesn’t feel like I’m burdening myself.Although I’m a perfectionist, I learned that everything doesn’t have to be absolutely perfect before posting. I really just wanted my audience to see me in my authentic life. Over time, my audience started to trust that I was posting accurate and original content. That trust has definitely helped me grow. I absolutely want to continue to expand and share Chewing with Chu with others. I am always monitoring what content styles my audience likes versus content that didn’t get the most traction so that I may learn from it. Really, as long as you enjoy what you do and you stay dedicated to it, the presence will follow. It may not happen over night but I guarantee someone will find you inspiring, entertaining, or knowledgeable.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Someone telling me that they learned something. Whether it be a new recipe or a tip about wine that they never knew, if my content has added to someone’s life in any way, I’m thrilled.
