We recently connected with Ashley Chin Rigaud and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Taking a risk is how I grew my business within the fashion industry. I was young when I reached out to a fellow stylist, he was styling celebrities and I emailed him to see if he needed an intern.
About two weeks later he responded to me and I went to work on my first project for him. It was such a scary moment because I had never formally met him. I just knew of his work and the colleague of his that I would be assisting. Needless to say, this was my big break and opened the floodgates to me styling Claudia Jordan, Teairra Mari, Marisol from Real housewives of Miami, Miami Dolphins former cheerleaders, and so many more.
This was the start of my company The Vanguard House now “Ashleyandco.”
Ashley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am very proud of what I’ve accomplished as a stylist. I’ve created many events including one for New York Fashion week featuring Nicole Zizi. I have styled many upcoming talents and also a few established celebrities.
It took a lot of patience with my craft, and although I took a break prior to having my daughter. I still remain a staple within South Florida, NYC, LA and Charlotte.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When the fashion styling began to slow down, I decided to pivot into the beauty industry and gain my license as an esthetician.
I then opened my own med spa a year before COVID would happen. Thanks to a friend Ashley Dean, she helped me gain a few clients when I moved back from charlotte.
After covid happened, my med spa business wasn’t the same. So I decided to take a break and get back to the drawing board. Now I am
Pivoting again and rebranding my business in both lanes.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Being nice and treating others with respect definitely helped my business to grow. However, getting the job done was always my main priority! I feel like when you are assigned to a task, you need to put your all into it.
Having that hustle is very rare these days!
