Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashley Cashon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ashley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar your firm earns is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
My first client, and many of the clients I continue to work with today, came from hosting Open Houses. I’ve noticed that many agents often focus too much on showcasing the house itself, rather than building connections with the visitors. I approach it differently. While answering questions about the home is why we are there in the first place, I go deeper and prioritize understanding what the visitors are looking for. For those who are open to engaging, I ask about the type of home they are searching for. I also provide a booklet I make in advance with similar properties in the same price range and offer assistance in arranging viewings or keeping an eye out for new listings. I believe if people sense that you’re trying to ‘sell’ them something, they’ll shy away. But if you genuinely take the time to have a conversation, learn what they need, and help them in their search, they are much more likely to welcome your support.

Ashley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My passion for real estate began at an early age. As a child, my parents often took us to visit homes under construction, and I found something truly magical in those unfinished spaces. Surrounded by dirt and plywood, I could vividly imagine the transformation of these structures into warm, welcoming homes. That early curiosity eventually led me to a career providing marketing and architectural floor plans to realtors nationwide. After six rewarding years in that role, I realized I wanted to be more directly involved in helping families find their ideal homes. I wanted to recreate the same excitement I felt as a child for others as they stepped into new spaces.
That desire led me to pivot my career toward becoming a realtor, and I haven’t looked back since. Drawing from my marketing experience, I regularly provide my network with up-to-date market information, helping them make informed decisions. For me, it’s all about empowering people to make the best choices for their future. Trust follows when clients see that you genuinely care about their goals and are committed to going above and beyond to help them succeed. Whether it’s spending extra time researching, offering personalized advice, or simply being a supportive presence, I make sure my clients know that their goals are my goals. My client’s success is my top priority.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I stay connected with clients and potential clients by offering valuable information through various formats. While real estate is my main focus, I understand that it’s not always top of mind for them unless they’re actively looking to buy or sell. That’s why, in addition to a monthly “Market Update,” I send out a monthly postcard with practical and relevant information. This might include things like the college football schedule for major teams, the local baseball team schedule, spring cleaning tips, or a list of nearby Christmas tree lots.
I also make it a point to reach out individually whenever I come across something that might benefit a past client. For example, I recently found out about a new vendor specializing in solar panels and immediately thought of a client who had purchased a home with solar features. I shared the recommendation with them, knowing it could be helpful. Ultimately, this business is all about supporting people and providing value, both during and after the transaction.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I have a few books that I would recommend to anyone for life:
‘Never Split the Difference’ by Chris Voss
‘Be the Unicorn’ by William Vanderbloemen
‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’ by Dale Carnegie
