We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Cadet recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Burning Candles has always been something I enjoyed doing when I came home after a long day. It sets the mood and helps me unwind with its aroma. I always wondered what went into making a candle and if I could use different waxes. In 2018, after having my son I had an ample amount of time on my hands and I started researching. Started out researching waxes, and fragrances then went on YouTube and Facebook to find a candle community. I wanted to find out from my friends and family what type of scents they enjoyed burning, if aesthetics made a big difference when purchasing a candle. I wanted to be able to create something that people would enjoy the way I enjoy them. I named the business Eason’s Essentials after my son. I wanted to show him in real time that I can build something for him while we are both growing and learning together.
Ashley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My brand is Eason’s Essentials. We have a line of all natural soy wax candles and wax melts in various scents. We also have matches that come in a glass container. Here at Eason’s Essentials we also create custom favors for events, where you can either request a specific scent or from our collection. We create labels matching your event, and is just the perfect gift at the end. The purpose for me creating Eason’s Essentials was to bring that soothing experience to everyone’s home. Allowing you to forget about the day you had, melt into your cozy space and unwind. Some of the things I am most proud of is being able to create unique fragrance blends all in my kitchen. It takes a lot of trial and error to find the right balances. I am also proud to be a business owner who is also a full time working mom. My son sees me on a daily working hard and promoting my business.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My best source of new clients for me has been word of mouth. Having one client post or speak about my candle and how much they enjoy it and that turning into 2-3 new clients inquiring.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson that I had to unlearn is that not everyone will support you just because they know you. When I first started my business I always assumed that the people around me would be my biggest supporters, especially because I show up for everyone. At first it was very disheartening to see but then the dust settles and the people I am grateful for those that have pushed me to where I am today. I appreciate them for believing in me.
