We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Butler recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Hair extensions has been apart of my life since I was like seventeen years old. I absolutely loved the boost of confidence I would feel when wearing extensions, and as the hair arena evolved, I did the same with it. From high school proms with the quick weaves or partial sew ins to now modern day with the variety of lace closures, frontals, and wigs! In college, I was a hair ambassador for a hair company based in Atlanta for about 3.5 years, I would constantly refer my classmates to the company with my coupon code which aided me for awhile not having to spend money on hair.. I received continuous compliments on my hair throughout campus until one day a light went off in my head and I thought “What if I started my own company with the same type of quality and put my name & face with my own brand?” I debated awhile but ended up making a final decision to move forward with my own brand, I wrote down my own business plan, I started to search for a vendor which took the most time, once a vendor was found, the rest was unlocked and my business been sailing ever since!

Ashley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well Hello To Anyone Who Isn’t Familiar With Honeybee Hair! My name is Ashley Butler, CEO of Honeybee Hair, our hair company is based out of Atlanta, Georgia. We are only online based currently, however, we ship all across the United States as well as International. We got into this business because of extreme passion for hair extensions and the boost of confidence that correlates with it. Our company’s catalog has expanded a lot of over the last four years, we sell luxury hair, from individual bundles that range from 16″ to 28″, closures and frontals that range from 14″ to 20″, tape ins, on the go pony’s, pre-highlighted bundles, clip ins, and 4×4 closure wigs, 5×5 closure wigs, 13×4 frontal wigs; all items vary in different textures such as Beeline Wave (Body Wave), Mink Sleek (Straight), Beehive Swirl (Loose Body), Viva La Curly (Deep Curly), Kinky Straight (Beekink Straight). Our brand prides ourselves in our excellent customer service, we are very hands on with each and every order that comes through our company until it makes it to your doorstep! I am proud of how much we’ve impacted our community with using our hair brand, over the years we have been a sponsor to a few young teenage girls for prom, we provided two $500 donations to TSA workers during the government shutdown, and we’ve provided wigs to women who have been diagnosed with Cancer.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Since the pandemic it has been a challenge to generate sales like we had prior to it. We’ve had to shape our company around the new changes since the pandemic as well. Our company’s motto is “Quality Hair For An Affordable Price” and since the 2020, the cost of hair wholesale has went up tremendously which put us into a bit of rift in regards to our prices, although we made the uncomfortable adjustments, as a business owner, you will experience a bunch of ups and downs in sales. We have days potentially a week or so without getting one sale but we always continuously promote our brand to draw the attention of potential customers. The journey won’t be dark forever but as long as you stay the course you’ll eventually see the brighter side & be appreciative for the adversity you hit on the way.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I would want to believe my consistent promoting of my brand! We did a lot of brand promotion in my shoots, we would correlate the company’s colors into the shoots a lot , which was yellow. A lot of customers were able to merge the yellow and the brand together which allowed my reputation to buzz throughout the market.
