We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Buggs recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Most people know me from my full time brow business where we teach our “Art of Brow” class, sell products and service clients. Our mission is to raise the bar by making eyebrows a luxury service. The philosophy of our signature brow shaping is based on tailoring every set of brows to each individual face. Then as of last year I became an investor in mobile homes, and as of March of this year I started dispatching my services out to transporting companies. While the mission for housing is simply providing affordable housing to those with a household income at or below the median as rated by the national government. One advantage mobile homes offer is that they are often a lower-cost option to move into making it a fast closing over traditional homes. In this regard, mobile homes can make homeownership easier to achieve especially during this housing crisis that we are currently in now in America with rental rate up 15% nationally.
While my days are long and busy, I have come to a happy balance of mapping out my days and keeping things together because I’m on a set schedule and I only look for mobile homes in the late Spring and Summers. You will always hear me saying my brow business comes first and everything else is second.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I’m a Licensed Cosmetologist so I love the beauty industry and have been in it for over 10 years now. I have always been an Entrepreneur at heart so I love looking into new things to start or to get into. I’m ambitious and I network with a lot of people so a lot of times people are always informing me about business opportunities because I keep an open mind. I guess you can say I started dispatching by having a conversation with an associate that knew of my work ethic and positive attitude. They took the time to tell someone about me who was in need of an evening dispatcher for their trucking business. Now here I am getting offers from others that need a dispatcher or just want me to train others.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective way to get clients is to be authentic and consistent everyday by showing up to work, even when you don’t have any clients scheduled for the day. You have to perform your services the exact same way every time that way you will know how long the service will take you and you won’t be all over the place when a client is in your chair. No matter the business you have to practice good work ethic and build good relationships with people by communicating and being fair.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn is playing it safe. Playing it safe too much will keep you behind and will have you doubting yourself in the moment because the time isn’t right or whatever the reason. You just have to know when it’s time to pivot and move. We are living in uncertain times so you can’t be too comfortable.
