We recently connected with Ashley Beck and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
Running a business means taking on all the different roles, and for me, one of the most important is managing my own social media. It’s not just about posting content—it’s about connection, education, and authenticity. I’ve made the choice to keep mine in my own hands, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I love the control I have over my content. Every post, every video, every interaction reflects exactly who I am and what Cosmic Hippie Beauty is about. My mission isn’t just to sell services; it’s to educate my clients, share my passion for beauty, and build a community that actually engages—not just scrolls past. Sure, the hours are long, and there are times when it feels like I’m putting in so much effort for little return, but that’s not why I do it. My content isn’t about chasing empty views—it’s for the people who actually want to see it.
One of the most rewarding parts of running my own social media is the connections I’ve built. Whether it’s clients who found me through my posts, industry professionals I’ve met along the way, or just the joy of seeing my work inspire someone, the effort is worth it. As tempting as it would be to have someone else handle the scheduling, editing, and analytics, I’d never give up the ability to market myself in my own unique way. Social media isn’t just a tool for me—it’s an extension of my brand, my business, and my passion.
I’ve put in countless hours building my content on social media, and seeing it grow into something real and meaningful has been so rewarding!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Ashley, the heart and hands behind Cosmic Hippie Beauty. With over 13 years in the beauty industry, I’ve worked in traditional salon settings, but I always knew I wanted something more—something I could truly call my own. That’s why I created Cosmic Hippie Beauty, a space where beauty meets creativity, relaxation, and individuality.
Cosmic Hippie Beauty isn’t just another salon; it’s an experience. I’ve built my space to be welcoming, vibrant, and uniquely me, filled with plants, color, and an energy that makes people feel at home. I specialize in nails and lash extensions, using clean, high-quality products that align with my commitment to offering beauty services without unnecessary chemicals. Every service is personalized, whether it’s a trending manicure, wispy lash extensions, or Cosmic pedicure!
I think what truly makes Cosmic Hippie Beauty different is the care and attention to detail I put into everything I do—from the products I choose to the experience I create for my clients. My work isn’t just about making people look good; it’s about making them feel good. I take time to educate my clients, whether it’s proper aftercare for lash extensions or how to maintain healthy natural nails. I also love getting creative with my services, offering unique options like colored lashes, current nail art trend options, and celestial-themed discounts that align with astrological events.
Beyond the services, I genuinely love connecting with people. I’ve built Cosmic Hippie Beauty with community in mind, whether it’s through my social media presence, local collaborations, or special events like pop-up markets and giveaways.
Cosmic Hippie Beauty is more than just a business—it’s a passion project that has grown into something truly special. I want people to know that when they walk into my space, they’re not just getting a service; they’re getting an experience that’s tailored to them. I care deeply about my clients, my craft, and the energy I put into my work.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The start of my social media journey was slow, and it felt like a small, steady climb. I had gained about 600 followers from when I created my account back in 2018. But last year, I decided I wanted to expand beyond just my clients and reach my beauty community. I started following other nail techs and beauty business owners, and that’s when things really started to take off. In less than six months, I gained nearly 1,000 followers, which was an amazing boost!
Since then, my growth has slowed a bit, but I’m focusing on creating more authentic, “real” content about myself, my business, and life in general. It’s become clear that people don’t just want to see your work anymore; they want to see you—who you are, what you’re passionate about, and how you live. So now I’m working on building deeper connections with my audience, sharing more of my personal story, and engaging with people in a way that feels genuine.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Creating my own products was something I’d always dreamed of doing. I wanted to offer my clients products that I trust, and that aligned with the Cosmic Hippie brand—clean, natural, and high-quality. That’s when I started making my own cuticle oils and sugar scrubs. I’m also working on eye masks and even some merchandise for the future!
To get started, I knew I didn’t want to just go out and buy random products to slap my brand on. I wanted to create products that fit into the ethos of Cosmic Hippie Beauty. So, I began by researching local businesses that could help me with branding and production. I’ve been working with a local company to bring these ideas to life, and I’ve been using different platforms to source the materials I need.
The most important lesson I’ve learned through this process is to do your research before jumping in. You want to make sure the price point is right, and that the ingredients or materials you’re using align with your brand values. It’s essential to choose vendors and suppliers that share your commitment to quality, because those products are an extension of your business and your brand.
