Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashley Batlle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ashley, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.

I started my business by accident, is what I like to say. I had my gone to school for Cosmetology right after school, just to have something to fall back on if I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do once I “grew up”. After graduating in 2002 from the program, I became licensed and work in the industry for around 2 years. After 14 years I decided that I wanted to enter the beauty industry as something to do on side of my full time job. I trained and became certified in Microblading ( a semi permanent eyebrow tattoo). With in a month of this decision, I had left my job and decided to focus on my business. I was renting a small room, created by curtains in the middle of a salon in Holyoke, MA while I started added services and established my business. A year to the date I found next location, where I had more private rooms to continue to grow, which I did, I grew my services and treatments, I grew my clientele and I grew my staff.

I have always been cautious of my next moves and would slowly go adding treatments, this way I had the opportunity to know what I enjoyed to do, what was profitable and what services were fan favorites with my clients.

I am now going into my six year in business and recently moved into my newest location, this was a big investment and a lot more work than what i have experienced in the past. The advice I like to give entrepreneurs is to believe in yourself always and believe in your vision because the people you have cheering you on while you are planning your business are not always going to be around when you achieve your dreams. Always start small and grow from there, baby steps are easier to manage, pivot and grow from.

Starting my career as a makeup artist, I quickly recognized the potential to make a more significant impact by offering a broader range of services that cater to holistic beauty and wellness. This realization led to the birth of Beauty Batlles Lounge, a unique sanctuary that combines the artistry of makeup, the rejuvenation of skincare treatments, and the empowerment of personal styling sessions. The lounge is a testament to my commitment to innovation and excellence in the beauty industry.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?

Reflecting on my journey, it’s evident that my varied experiences, from styling in hair salons to sales and makeup artistry, have equipped me with unique skills and lessons, shaping me into the professional I am today. This diverse background has enriched my approach, making my profession uniquely rewarding, everyday. Here, every day is distinct, filled with new challenges and opportunities to apply my vast expertise. My journey highlights the importance of embracing varied experiences, learning at every step, and the value they bring to my current entrepreneurial venture. It’s this rich tapestry of experiences that makes my work at Beauty Batlles Lounge, Inc. truly fulfilling, allowing me to create a dynamic and innovative business environment.

Have you ever had to pivot?

I remember the day I made the tough decision to pivot in my career. I was the proud owner of Eenie Mini Cakes, a baking business I ran out of my home. Baking was not just my profession; it was my passion. However, as I was preparing to purchase my first home, I faced the stark reality that I needed to prove a steady income. This led me to the difficult decision to put my business on hold and step into the world of full-time employment.

My first role in this new chapter of my life was at a vocational high school in the culinary department. It felt like a natural transition, aligning perfectly with my background in baking and culinary arts. This role allowed me to share my knowledge and passion with young, aspiring chefs. It was fulfilling in a way I hadn’t anticipated, providing me with a sense of purpose and connection to the culinary world, even though I was no longer running my business.

Unfortunately, as the school year came to an end, I found out that I wouldn’t be offered a permanent position due to seniority rules. This was a blow, but I’ve learned that resilience is key in life. I didn’t allow this setback to deter me. Instead, I embarked on a completely different path, one that I never imagined for myself: door-to-door sales for a cable company.

This role was a far cry from anything I had done before. Every day was a new challenge, a new opportunity to learn and grow. It taught me the art of persuasion, the importance of resilience, and the ability to connect with people on a personal level. More importantly, it helped me achieve my goal of purchasing my first home.

Looking back on my journey, I see a tapestry of experiences that at first glance might seem disconnected. Yet, each job, each pivot, has left me with invaluable lessons. From running my own business to teaching, and then to sales, I have gathered a wealth of knowledge and skills that continue to shape my professional and personal life.

I’ve come to realize that pivoting is not just about changing directions; it’s about growth, learning, and adaptation. It’s about taking the essence of what you do, the core of who you are, and finding new ways to express and apply it. Each pivot in my career has been a stepping stone to where I am today, a journey that I look back on not with regret but with gratitude for the diverse experiences and the nuggets of knowledge each has brought into my life.
