We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Baldwin recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.

Before I started making content, I worked two full-time jobs and I was in college all while being in a single mom. Sadly, one day I had an accident and I broke my knee. I was out of work for a while as I needed two surgeries and lots of recovery to learn how to walk again and strengthen my knee. As we know some jobs care more about the position than the staff and sadly both of my jobs. Let me go. I was in my head with loads of college work, mom duties and limited mobility. I had to figure out what I was going to do to make money. The easiest thing for me to do was to pick up my phone. I started to create content of my son and I somehow gained a lot of attention. I use my platform to show parents how to maximize their time and find affordable activities while fitting fun into a hectic schedule. This allowed me to create an engage in following who supports me no matter what. This was five years ago and that was the last time I clocked in at a job. Now I am the job. I took a risk and it’s paid off. I now do travel and date night content where I work with a big brain companies around the world and teach people how to travel affordably and use the discounts that are at hand that we overlook. I can’t say that this is Dream job because when I was a kid, this was not an idea. I can’t say that my dream was to be happy and I am very happy. The risk God took that led me to this position in my life allows me to be more of a present mother. The risk I took also allows me to see the world and try new activities daily. The risk I have open doors that I’ve never thought about being opened for me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I teach people how to find travel deals with discounts at hand that they don’t realize or available to them. I teach couples how to find affordable date night ideas. Sometimes budgets and daily life doesn’t permit extra funds for travel and dating but I bet you I can find you something for one dollar! I show parents how to find local activities for their kids and where to look for these activities.

With my content, I tried to answer the questions. There’s some of us are scared to ask out loud. Wisconsin is easy to come off as I know it all so I wanted to be as relatable as I could with posting so that people felt comfortable, asking the questions that some of us may want to ask but are scared too.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

What helped me most with my marketing was honestly just being relatable. we all have commonalities no matter our race, ethnicity, or creed. We are all human before anything. And with that being said, I made a platform that allowed me to build a community of women and men of all ages. With having such a diverse following, this allows me to be able to post and promote any kind of content or activity idea so that I’m not stuck in a niche.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Whenever I started making content, there was no revenue being made. But I’ve seen people on social media making money from content, so I decided to give it a hand. I Wasn’t consistent at first because I felt like I didn’t have what the others had. But I had myself And that’s something that they didn’t have. When I got that booster confidence and I decided to be consistent I finally made my first content video that brought in a payment of $5000. You couldn’t tell me anything. I thought I was on top of the world. Maybe that was a boost of confidence that I needed Because from that day forward, anything that I post on social media is a job for me. All while, still being myself and having fun.
