We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashley Baca a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. Do you have an agent or someone (or a team) that helps you secure opportunities and compensation for your creative work? How did you meet you, why did you decide to work with them, why do you think they decided to work with you?
I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the incredible team at MJB Agency. Your unwavering support, guidance, and dedication have been instrumental in shaping my journey in the entertainment industry. Your belief in my talent and your expertise in securing meaningful opportunities have made a significant difference in my career. I look forward to continuing this remarkable partnership as we work together to bring more stories to life and make a positive impact on audiences. Thank you for everything you do.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Of course, I’d be happy to introduce myself and provide some context. I’m Ashley Baca, a multi-talented performer with a background in acting, stand-up comedy, and writing. Originally from Santa Fe, NM, I’ve spent over 15 years in the entertainment industry, honing my skills and sharing my passion for storytelling.
My journey began in acting, where I had the privilege of portraying a wide range of characters on stage and in independent cinema. This experience allowed me to discover my love for storytelling and connecting with audiences.
As my career evolved, I delved into the world of stand-up comedy, swiftly making my mark in comedy clubs and festivals across the nation. My unique brand of humor combines sharp wit with relatable storytelling, aiming to bring laughter and joy to people’s lives.
I’m also a writer and filmmaker, having written and directed my own short films. My artistic pursuits are driven by a commitment to authenticity and a dedication to amplifying diverse voices and perspectives.
My journey in the entertainment industry has been a remarkable one, filled with opportunities, challenges, and the unwavering belief that storytelling can bridge divides and bring people together. I look forward to sharing more insights and experiences with you.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I haven’t reached what I consider “making it” in my creative career, and that’s something many non-creatives might not fully grasp. The path can be long and filled with uncertainty, and it’s not always about fame or fortune. Creatives often find fulfillment in the process, the small victories, and the growth that may not be immediately evident to those who don’t share the same creative journey. It’s about a deep passion for self-expression and the constant pursuit of artistic improvement. This can be hard to understand for those who measure success solely by traditional standards. But for us, the journey itself is a meaningful destination, and the perseverance and dedication we exhibit along the way can inspire anyone seeking their own path of personal fulfillment.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had known about resources related to energy healing and tapping earlier. These practices can be powerful tools for managing creative blocks, anxiety, and self-doubt, which often hinder the creative process. Exploring these methods could have provided me with valuable techniques to maintain mental and emotional well-being throughout my creative endeavors.
