Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to ASHLEIGH SINCLAIRE. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi ASHLEIGH, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I could not have started this career any sooner, although I wish I could have; I wish my parents saw the natural, innate talent I had when I was younger so that I would have taken Drama and Theatre in school;
Yet, that was not the plan for me; and now at the age of 63 I am doing what I was born to do, be a transformational storyteller and I could not have done this any sooner and not with the stories I tell as I was not ready nor were the stories, nor was the audience and it’s all ready now in divine perfect timing;
My parents were too busy trying to save their marriage and raise 4 children so seeing the natural talents in there youngest child was not on their radar;
And I was actually shy and too self-conscious and would probably not have joined the theater department;
Plus, it took a decades of life’s experiences, traumas and dramas to sculpt this performer and the stories she shares;
All in divine timing…
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into performing, storytelling to be specific, through my intuition; it was a beautiful spring morning, i was sitting on my deck and was thinking about creating a workshop of my best practices that have helped me heal emotionally for my coaching clients;
at this time i was doing 1-1 coaching helping women with personal healing, authentic expression and empowering communication yet i was bored with it;
as i was contemplating on the deck I heard my still, quiet voice say “go bigger” and I immediately knew what that meant;
I had been sharing my experiences of personal healing and transformation with my friends for decades and i observed how they were timeless and deeply touching so I organized some of my favorite stories and shared them with 25 close friends 3 weeks later on my 53rd birthday and everyone loved it as did i performing it for them;
that was the beginning of this new career that i did not see coming!
Today, I have written and produced my 2nd show which is entitled, the mother monologues – a love story, and it is the arc of the relationship between my mother and I with it’s challenges, twists turns and surprises; it is an engaging, inspiring and poignant story of the rich and complex relationship between mothers and daughters and what’s possible;
It’s mission is to inspire 1 million hearts; to see our mothers with a different persepctive, to take them off the hook, to take radical responsibility for our healing, to see her as her own woman and to heal our hearts and in turn that will help heal their hearts and generations behind and in front of us; and more…
this unhealed relationship lives inside of us and is the invisible stress that affects our relationships, energy, perspective and leadership;
today, i help my clients with their mother story to reclaim their vital potency, transform stagnant energy into embodiment and alchemize triggers into presence;
this is empowering work as it frees us from the prisons we create with our stories;
i am most proud of how I’ve learned to take radical care of myself which allowed me to care for my mother in her latter years that provided both of us with unimaginable healing, reconciliation and celebration;
i am humbled and in awe that i get to support courageous, strong, spirited women that see the value, intelligence and wisdom of healing this relationship;
it’s not just for ourselves, it’s for our daughters, mothers, grand and great grand parents and our sons, brothers and husbands;
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The missiom of the show, that i feel I’m a spokesperson for, is to inspire 1 million hearts; the story that i weave in the mother monologues – a love story is a personal one yet it’s also universal because we all have mothers;
there are universal themes with unique, specific dynamics as well; and we are all human, want to love, be seen, heard, acknowledged and want to be loved;
this story is everyone’s story and it is an invitiation to heal, let go, see things from a different perspective and most importantly it is an invitation to heal the mother relationship;
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a performance artist and allowing my creative energy to move through me regardless of it’s outcome is that I feel so alive, so natural in this skin, so much joy runs through me sharing it with others that I can’t help but not continue on this journey;
I also love witnessing my creativity inspiring others and the best lesson I have learned on this journey is to create for the sake of creating; whenever i start getting in my head about who, what, where, when and how my creative flow would stop;
To create for the sake of creating is my new drug because it remains in it’s purest state;
I really began my creative journey, this current phase of writing, producing and performing, at age 54 and I don’t plan on stopping!
