We recently connected with Ashleigh Netter and have shared our conversation below.
Ashleigh , appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
One of the biggest leaps I took was choosing to bet on myself during one of the stormiest times in my life. Everything seemed stable—my career, my personal life, my dreams for the future—until it all came crashing down in just a few hours. I felt heartbroken, lost, and unsure of my next steps. But in that challenging moment, I made a decision that would transform my life: I chose to believe in myself and take charge of my future.
This risk wasn’t just about starting fresh; it was about embracing the unknown and trusting that I could rebuild my life and career on my own terms. It meant stepping out of my comfort zone, leaving behind what felt safe, and confronting challenges directly. Though it felt daunting at times, it was also incredibly empowering.
The journey wasn’t smooth, but I relied on three guiding principles: I embraced the storm, viewing challenges as chances to grow; I leaned into gratitude, uncovering lessons and strength even amid tough moments; and I aimed to inspire others through my story. This mindset not only helped me piece my life back together but also enabled me to create meaningful initiatives and lead with intention.
Since then, my choice to bet on myself has opened doors to amazing opportunities. I’ve secured over $1.5 million to support scholarships and community programs, fed thousands of families, and started initiatives that provide essential services to underserved communities. I’ve learned that taking thoughtful risks and having faith in your ability to navigate challenges can unleash incredible potential.
This experience has deepened my belief that we all possess the power to transform adversity into triumph. Taking risks isn’t just about evading failure; it’s about daring to have faith in yourself and your vision. For me, this risk wasn’t merely a turning point—it was the bedrock of everything I’ve built since.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My journey of resilience is closely connected to one of the most pivotal moments in my life: surviving Hurricane Katrina. On August 29, 2005, I was a second-year pharmacy student in New Orleans, getting ready for what I thought would be a brief evacuation. Within just 24 hours, everything I cherished was swept away—my home, my vibrant city, and my sense of normalcy.
As the storm raged on, I found myself in a shelter with my family, feeling disconnected from the life I had been building. We became what the news called “refugees,” suddenly facing the reality of homelessness, scarcity of resources, and overwhelming uncertainty. In those heavy moments, I felt numb and lost, nearly stripped of my identity. But nestled within this rubble of despair, I uncovered a resilience that would come to shape my life’s mission.
I still vividly remember a mental health professional approaching me, trying to counsel me about my trauma while completely overlooking the paper scrubs I was wearing and the harsh reality of my situation. That encounter sparked something inside me—a recognition that people often need to be truly seen and empathized with, not simply “saved.” This realization inspired me to create what I now refer to as the LIT Framework—Live to Inspire and Transform.
Through this lens, I began to turn adversity into purpose. I embraced the “capital gains” from the storm: grit, determination, and a heartfelt vision for service. I promised to be a resource for others facing their own “Katrina,” whether through illness, loss, or career challenges.
Since then, I’ve woven these lessons into my work, supporting others as they rebuild and thrive. While Katrina forever reshaped me, it also unveiled my ability not just to survive but to truly live fully and authentically. Resilience isn’t about remaining unshaken—it’s about embracing the storm, learning from it, and using those lessons to inspire transformation in others. That’s what it means to be LIT.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most important lessons I had to unlearn was that success is always tied to visible results. For a long time, I believed that if my hard work didn’t lead to immediate outcomes like a promotion, recognition, or clear impact—I must be doing something wrong. I associated productivity with my worth and visibility with success, which added unnecessary pressure and self-doubt.
The turning point came during a particularly challenging time in my career. Despite following all the “rules” of success, working hard, taking risks, and showing up consistently, I noticed little progress. Each morning, I faced a growing to-do list and felt a sinking sensation that none of it was making a difference. It felt like I was planting seeds in barren soil without knowing if they would ever flourish. The familiar advice to “trust the process” seemed hollow, and I began to wonder if my efforts were in vain.
Then, it hit me: I was viewing success through the wrong lens. Growth doesn’t always appear as progress. Sometimes, it’s about being rooted during moments of stillness. I learned to shift my focus towards the invisible work happening below the surface—like how a seed grows roots before emerging.
I started to embrace the idea that success isn’t solely about immediate results but persistence, purpose, and faith in what we cannot yet see. This shift in my mindset allowed me to unlearn the misleading narrative that equates output with progress. I began to trust that the work I was putting in, even if it was invisible, was truly meaningful.
This lesson also transformed how I engage with my clients. I encourage them to trust their individual journeys, reminding them that the seeds they plant today may not bear fruit until the right season arrives. Through daily reflections and focusing on their “North Star” vision, we work side by side to align their purpose with their goals.
Unlearning the need for visible validation is a constant journey, but it is incredibly freeing. It taught me to appreciate the value in every step of the process and gave me the perseverance to keep moving forward, even when outcomes weren’t immediately clear. I carry this lesson into my work, helping others reframe their paths and find purpose even during those waiting seasons.
