We recently connected with Ashleigh Dawson and have shared our conversation below.
Ashleigh, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, one thing many business owners consider is donating a percentage of sales or profits to an organization or cause. We’d love to hear your thoughts and the story behind how and why you chose the cause or organization you donate to.
Recycle2Riches is a nonprofit so other companies can partner up with us and donate to our cause. On top of being a nonprofit that is able to accept donations, we also partnered up with one tree planted and LA Compost to give a $1 to those nonprofits. These donations come from our give 4 a gift online store!
Ashleigh, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Ashleigh Dawson started her environmental advocacy work while pursuing her fashion internships in Los Angeles, California. Ashleigh started learning about overproduction and the broken linear economy we have today. At 18 and with a vision, she created Recycle2Riches.org! Her main goal with this non-profit is to transform the culture of consumption on a global scale. As the President of R2R, she believes that the world needs to work towards a circular economy along with a closed-loop lifestyle.
She is also the curator of the Earth Day Summit; an annual one-day climate action event that makes Earth Day Every Day for all involved.
Ash is inspired by the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals. She is currently focusing on circularity and becoming a leader in ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance).
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Resilience is in my everyday work and has been throughout my whole journey of life. Number one I am a dyslexic CEO. So everything has been extremely challenging from the start. For example, when I was opening up my first company, I spelled the name wrong when I was registering the DBA. Everything has been an up hill battle and I have had to work hard to even have the confidence to run this nonprofit.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my LA Chapter lead at an event through another brand that I partnered with. She was working for this fashion brand and wanted to start taking more climate action. She started volunteering with us and just asked how she could be more involved.
