We were lucky to catch up with AshLeigh Brodin recently and have shared our conversation below.
AshLeigh , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
What sets us apart here at Avenue Blue Kc is that we are a one stop shop for all of our clients. We offer Design, Planning, Coordination, Event Rentals and Decor, Photo Booth, Bar Services, Make up and Florals. This allows our clients to communicate with One Vendor instead of having to keep track of multiple.
What also sets us apart is we have a showroom and a very detailed client intake form to make sure we capture your vision, When booking your appointment at our showroom you can build your vision right before your eyes!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is AshLeigh Brodin and I am the proud Owner of Avenue Blue Kc, Rustic Elegance Event Rentals, and Blue Prints Kc Photo Booth. I moved to Kansas City after attending the University of Kansas. Through out College I worked at Salty Iguana and 6 Mile Chop House and Tavern where I took over assisting and helping with events. From there I got the opportunity to work for Sporting Kansas City on their events team. In 2021 I made the decision to launch Avenue Blue Kc. I wanted something that I could do that would allow me more flexibility with my family, friends, and dogs but also be able to help people in the best way that I can!
I am beyond proud of how much my team has grown in the two and a half years in business and I cant wait to see what the future holds!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Since launching Avenue Blue Kc I have had the normal hardship all small business owners face when beginning in a pandemic! What I was not prepared for was the loss of both my parents. This was an extreme hardship to work through and I continue to work through. However, I had to pivot my mindset to live, work, and build in their honor.
What was a huge relief was working for myself. I could schedule meetings for what would work best for myself during this process. I was able to build strong relationships with other vendors in the community, I was able to establish stronger relationships with my team, and I was able to take the time to grieve and process without having to worry about if I had time off.
Not only that but this open communication with my clients allowed me to build not only client relationships but lasting relationships with my clients. Being vulnerable with them allowed them to be more vulnerable with me. I have now been able to be a support system to couples who have also encountered loss.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for new clients for Avenue Blue Kc is client referral. The majority of services we have booked have all been referral based. This is something we also really pride ourselves on!
