We were lucky to catch up with Ashlei White recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ashlei , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with something countless entrepreneurs have had to figure out on the fly – how have you dealt with the rise of remote work?
Working remotely has provided me with flexibility to give my family and side businesses more time. I am able to multi-task which allows me to remain excited about my job. Working remotely allows me to work in various places outside of my home and pick up and go while still balancing work responsibilities. When I used to work in an office on a day to day basis, I felt stuck in a shell and unmotivated todo my job which was not conducive to my mental health and ability to complete assignments with passion and drive behind them. As a business owner working on my businesses on the side, working remotely has been the best for me to expand and scale my businesses.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! My name is Ashlei White and I am the Founder & CEO of The Bawse Mom Movement, a supportive space to empower working moms to continue pursuing their goals personally and professional while succeeding in motherhood. We focus on 3 pillars to focus on work life balance including: personal and professional development, self-care and community. I started this business as a self-reminder that I can find success in motherhood and my career without having to give up my goals. I’ve seen several Bawse moms out there already doing this, and I was obliged to help share their stories through podcasting and now the business has evolved to so much more! Today, I not only serve in the podcast industry, but I’ve began to soar in events and coaching for my community!
I am most proud of the grow of the community and feedback on how I am serving moms to achieve their goals. Not counting themselves out of success and losing their identities. If you’re ever thinking of giving up as a working mom, I’d like you to know, you’re capable and worthy. Set boundaries and don’t hesitate to ask for help, though we’d like to be “supermom” and carry everything on our backs, we can’t. Take time for self-care and most importantly believe in yourself!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Growth doesn’t come east and you must be committed to watch your business go from small to large (or whatever you desire). I’ve learned as I figure things out in my business, there will be financial loss and every idea won’t be the best. I’ve purchased merchandise for the idea to sell them and haven’t been as successful, however I haven’t let it stop me from still pushing them. I am not the best salesperson or marketer but I’ve learned how to push my brand and items. It can be disappointing at times at the outcome but continue to be strong and push through!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve pivoted in my business since the beginning. The world is ever changing and the needs of the consumer will change. But not only that, as a business owner and creative you may gain new ideas to take your business further. I started the business as just a podcast and have almost shifted away with my additional offers. I won’t let go of the podcast but will be shifting the frequency of new episodes in the future. It’s okay to have transition in your business or career!
