We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashlei White. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ashlei below.
Ashlei, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Becoming a mom is probably one of the scariest feelings I’ve had thus far in my 30 years of living. The fact that you’re about to take on the responsibility of another human being and still find a way to remain the woman you were prior is something you can’t imagine doing until it happens. Growing up, most young girls dream and anticipate the day they’ll start their family. I was just starting my second career in HR and had so many plans on how I would dominate my field. My plan hasn’t stopped at all but there was a time where I felt it would because now someone would be calling me “mommy.” This feeling birthed my business, The Bawse Mom Movement. I am committed to showing other millennial mothers, specifically minority women, that their dreams/goals don’t stop because they’re adding the title “mom” to the long list of titles they may already possess. We deserve the opportunity to be successful in our careers and motherhood. I work to encourage moms to find a way to structure their lives as working women through 3 pillars: personal & professional development, self-care & community.
Ashlei, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Absolutely, by profession I am an HR Diversity Recruitment Leader in the Investment Banking industry and a serial entrepreneur owning a boutique travel agency, Ashlei’s Adventures, Managing a luxury hair extension store, Honey Hair Co Atlanta, and owner of
The Bawse Mom Movement. I attended Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, FL obtaining my bachelor’s in psychology and masters in Transformative Leadership. I am a proud member of the Dynamic Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and pillar in my community.
Most recently, I have had the opportunity to begin my speaking career and it has been something I’ve always had in the back of my mind but finally pursuing. I hope to be impactful in the lives of other women, feeding positivity and empowerment to help push
them to the next level of their success.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I find that building your social media presence is simple when you’re being yourself. Your audience is encouraged through relatability. I am able to share my journey by just being myself and authentic about things I go through on a daily basis. I believe in telling my truth and showing the good and bad times, people want to see that they can overcome things that may be similar to your situation.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My market is for working moms, with a focus on minority women. I share my journey of working from home with a toddler and the process of finding the structure that fits my lifestyle. I focus on personal/professional development, self-care and building a strong community. My audience understands this message and can relate as most are working either in a 9-5 or for themselves. I show my highs and lows which help me build my reputation of being a mother who believes we should keep our identities while being successful mothers.
