We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashlee Harris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ashlee below.
Hi Ashlee, thanks for joining us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
I have a few heroes in my life and extensively look up to many people around me, but I would say the hero that has helped me the most during this creative journey would be my best friend, Ashley. Like many of my close friends, she has continued to support me throughout this journey, and she truly has the biggest heart of anyone I know. She is someone who has significantly impacted my life for the better. We met when we were 15, so we’ve watched each other mature into who we are today. Watching her grow and succeed has given me the strength to keep pushing forward. It’s evident to most that this photography journey is a massive part of my life, so having her support and encouragement is great in my personal life and has helped me gain confidence in my craft. Having a support system is essential for self-growth and success, and I am thankful that she is in my life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a photographer specializing in portrait photography, but I also love to take pictures of couples and graduates. It started as a hobby where I took pictures of my friends and then realized I had a unique passion for it. It was then that I began exploring what being a photographer would look like for me. When taking photos, one of my main goals is for my clients to feel their absolute best during and after the session. Many of my clients have never experienced professional pictures before, so making them feel as comfortable as possible is a big deal for me and my business. Photos last a lifetime, and being part of a memorable experience is very rewarding. When I’m taking portraits, it’s really about the one person you’re focusing on, and I love to focus on what they feel confident about and maybe help them see themselves in a light they’ve never seen before. I would describe my brand as clean, warm, editorial, and bright. My specific style and brand are what make my work unique. It is essential to have a brand. When clients reach out to me, they trust my experience, type, and overall brand. What sets me apart from others is my passion for my work. I love to share my work with others and will continue to share this passion for as long as possible. Creating relationships with my clients is very important to me, and I am forever grateful for everyone who has allowed me to explore this passion. Even when life gets overwhelming and busy, I know that photography will always be there for me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is witnessing my professional and personal growth. I continue to learn something new every time I shoot. Like everyone, I make plenty of mistakes but using that to my advantage and learning from it helps me grow, and with that, my photos improve. Professional lessons I have learned over the years are essential to running a business. However, the more valuable lessons are the ones that impact my growth as a person and a photographer. I have learned many valuable lessons in working for myself that I would’ve never known if I didn’t pursue photography. I have learned critical lessons like setting boundaries, knowing when to say no, and finding a balance for my creativity between being a full-time student and working. I have witnessed myself grow immensely throughout the years, not only with the way my photographs look but with my personal growth, which I am super proud of.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Like most people, one of my goals is to live a happy and fulfilling life. There are many obstacles and roadblocks along the way, but I believe that finding something you’re passionate about can help you reach that goal. Being creative is a therapeutic outlet for me, which drives me to continue this creative journey.
